i have a question and i guess yall are the ones to answer. i have 3 ornatas lavander that are pupping like crazy, and only one of my ornata bronze only has one pup on it? they get watered at the same time and get fed the same amount of fert. is it that the lavander is a more prolific pupper or is it that it takes the bronze longer for some other reason? also how long does it usually take a saba and an oronico to pup? everythings fine with the saba and oronico, leaves and p-stem are healthy, does it just take a while for them to pup??? everything else is "full steam ahead", just wondering if im doing something wrong or if im just to darn impatient. lol.

I dont have the answer to the first part of your question. My Ornicos got here as large corms at the end of march and some in april. So far the 3 largest have offered up a 3 ft pup and the beginnings of three more pups. I dont know the age of the corms however as to how long it takes from a "new" plant to start pupping. I suppose a lot depends as well as to where they are located, heat, light and general care.

the bronze that has a pup is in partial shade, one lavander is in the shade( she now has 4 pups...wahoo). the other 2 lavanders are in full sun( one pup on one and 3 on the other) my second bronze is also in full sun( no pup). my saba and oronico are in full sun (all day sun). everything is healthy, in beautiful sades of green and no rot( thank god). and yes i do tend to get a little on the impatient side specially when it comes to my plants.

I think different bananas pup at different rates, even different plants within the same species or cultivar. I don't grow lavander, so I can't say about it, but my laterita 'Bronze' pups like crazy. Maybe you should adopt the phrase from the one about waiting for a pot of water to boil...A watched banana never pups!!! But turn your back for a few days and suddenly you'll have pups. Hang in there!

Bronze like to send runners out...is the bronze in the ground (if not it needs to be)? Be patient and the bronze will pup plenty..just needs room to run...I mow them over with the lawn mower and they still pop up everywhere..lol...

6" pup! Surprise!! Did you get rain? I love to go out after it rains. Seems like everything grows in fast motion.
Congrats! Deb |

Deb, I noticed that too! I talked to another banana grower here in town, and he said he gives each one of his a bucket full of water. That way he knows exactly how much water their getting.

My mom used to have to water their family orchard like that when she was a little girl. One bucket per tree per day during dry times. My grandfather would periodically check the depth of damp ground to make sure she didn't slack off.

I work offshore and am gone for 28 days at a time and last hitch I noticed that my second year Sabas had no pups or even signs of pupping. My Williams were pupping like crazy. I got in yesterday from my hitch and both Sabas had 4 or 5 pups with one almost 2 ft. tall. It's amazing to see the difference 28 days make.
