Sunfish i am growing Ice creams but as of yet havint had them fruit but from every thing iv read it takes some were from 18 to 24 months the fruit normaly takes 6 months to ripin

In the Sacramento valley it took 2 full years from a TC plant, just to get a bloom on my Ice Cream and Dwarf Orinoco. Still waiting on the fruit...

Planted my ice cream from Jarred at the beginning of October 2007, and now she is huge with lots of pups and I am looking for a flag every day!!

Me too. Got me a matured dwarf Brazilian (about 5 feet high) from Joe Real last Summer and am still looking for a flag everyday.
That's a long time looking..........

In Houston, Texas, the time from planting to fruit was 14 months....now if I could just get a firm idea of how long it'll be from fruit to "in my belly", I'd be a happy camper...

Taylor, is that from 1st hand experience?

There's another thread on here about someone whose ice creams weren't ready to eat until 8 months after bearing fruit. That seems like a long time to me, so I'm looking for input from anyone who has grown them.

I think that person had their's fruit right before winter, and then go all the way through the winter without growth (dormancy), and then they didn't ripen until it was warm out the NEXT summer. That is the only thing I can think of.

I will have some 1st hand experience this fall with my harvest of my Cal Gold!

Congrats on the CA Gold. I've had mine for 2 years so far and I was hoping for a bloom this year, but so far no dice...

What I'm hearing is that in subtropical climates, it is often 14 months from pup (not TC) to flower, then about 4 months to "ripe" fruit. So it would seem that early April is the time to start a pup on its 1.5 year journey.
