]Its supposed to be a raja puri, but I really don't know how to truly identify it.

Can you post a picture of yours?
I have only owned this plant since this april. I read somewhere that the best way to positively identify this variety is by its fruit.

Re: Post raja puri pics here.

How long have you had your plant?
Is that a current picture? How fast does it unravel a new leaf.
Do the edges of your leaf have a red stripe? mine do.

i noticed the tip of your largest leaf in the picture seems to have a much sharper point. my leafs tend to be a bit more blunt. I know it is probably silly to assume that all the true characteristics of a plant will show correctly on something that is so young, so the shape of a leaf is not likely the best method of identifying something.

Re: Post raja puri pics here.

I've only had it about two weeks.
It does have the pink/red rim on the outer edge of the leaf and if you look close it has some faint wine blotches on a few areas, it gets a new leaf about once every week.
The edge might be blunt because it's young or because that's only its second leaf.

I forgot about wine blotches. you can see a blotch on one of my leaves too. However, the last few leaves have not had any blotches on them that i can recall.

I will get you an updated pic shortly. I had mine for about 11 months till it bloomed but it was given to me with a nice size corm on it already.

These pictures are last year in December when it bloomed. I didnt take any pictures of the 2nd bloom. It bloomed in April but the bud chocked out and the bananas never developed. The mat is very big now but I am going to remove it because it chocked and ruined a harvest on me.

Agree, I get 1 new leaf each week but its a dwarf so they seem kind of slow compared to other tall variety's.

Thanks for those pics, they confirm this was the one I use to have. I lost it during winter, it was mislabeled so I didn't know which one it was.

o yes, they all die back in when it freeze outside. I have tried tarps and drop lights, bubble wrap. I just let them go now and cut em back in spring.

Dwarf yes, Def I have never seen it get much taller than 5 - 6' foot tall. Dwarf Namwah actually gets taller than Raja Puri. I do like that it is such a Dwarf and the fruit also pretty good. If you want any pups to try out let me know while they are still around.

I think I am going to have to wait and see if mine truly is a Raja Puri. I have had it since summer and it is very small. I got is small and it is only now starting to take off. I moved it inside after it got spots all over from the cold.

Ice Cream is taller, I have both in bloom right now. I will get you a pic of both, soon as we have sun and I am off work. :)

Re: Post raja puri pics here.

The first few pictures show my Raja Puri in October and November, 2010, when it was a smaller mat, and the last picture is in May, 2011. It had two bunches from flowers that started in October of last year, and then it had four more bunches this summer. I am getting rid of it because it is too large for the area where I put it and because it pups like mad and because the fruit is too small and two thin for me. It does have beautiful leaves that stand up to wind fairly well, and it seems to fruit quickly and easily.

I brought my baby RP in for the winter, seems to be adjusting well.

My bananas outside finally got the frost, but the stems are nice and strong still.

The first few are Ice cream, and bottom two Raja. You can see the RJ is much smaller.
