Please folks, post your location. State.province, country, etc. Many memebers have just the thing, "Find me on the map." This takes a lot of time and, frankly, I am not about to do it, if I'm going to reply to most questions. Go to your profile, and add your state, or province, or country, or hardiness zone. This makes it a lot easier to answer than if you don't know whether you're in Ontario, or Florida.

I agree....honestly I find it kinda frustrating when people ask questions about plant hardiness, etc and there is no information on their profile about their location or zone.

I'm thinking that most folks that need to know, or would care to know, already know my location. Plus, if I needed advice that the location would be pertinent to, I'd remember to mention it in the post.

I agree with you!

but-- there is no conection between persons hardiness zone and persons wish to know plant hardiness. What does it mean when you said- 'there is no information on his profile, but he is asking about plant hardiness'?

I am very generous when it is up to new members, they are few minutes on the forum and want to know certain thing, he doesn't know to Control Panel yet.

I was just meaning that a lot of people on the site ask questions in the forums such as "will ______ variety overwinter in my area," "when should I dig up______" or other questions about which plants would be good choices for them to grow without informing people in their profile or otherwise where they are located/what USDA climate zone they live in.

I think its just an oversight that matters if they want good feedback. We know they are worried about whatever brought about their post in the first place, now if hardiness or location was included in background information on the plant in question its just more helpful I'd say. :^)

I second that recommendation, although I left it up until now to just state the HZ, because province
(BC) and country (Canada), would not mean anything. In BC we 'have it all', from glaziers and
HZ 1 to HZ 9A. Therefore just naming province and country would not mean a thing as far as
discussions on this board are concerned.

Nevertheless, I have taken your advice and added a more defined location as well.

I think that some people, like me, may be a little hesitant to disclose too much about their location. Although most everyone on Bananas.org seems very friendly and helpful, you never know when you may be communicating with a crazy person. I did try to include my zone, which seems like a reasonable request. Thanks for the tip.

I think people worried about crazies shouldn't worry if they only put a general vacinity (IE.. NW Florida.. etc). I'm sure people worried aren't going to put themself on the map.. yah know. :^)

While I understand concerns of internet security, I do not feel that divulging a simple city/state (or even just the state) really opens you up for any possible issues with others on this site. Even a small town typically has at least several hundred people, making such issues nearly impossible. I can understand not divulging your address/phone number on the site or using the 'find me on the map' feature to map out your exact house, but listing city/state is really no significant risk. (anyone that paranoid shouldn't even be using the internet as there are ways to track IP address and locations even without divulging the aforementioned information)

The basic point of this thread is that location and climate zone are indeed important bits of information on this site. Members are encouraged to list such information to aid in accurately answering any questions they have.

Yo John NY: I, being a bit learning disabled, am not a good geek or techie! I did however just place where I live, and agree with most posts on this subject, for info sharing among members. I really don't fear a black banana helicopter gunship appearing over my house anytime soon either, from one of my posts ! :-)

However we do carry guns out here, know the law and when we can defend ourselves, family or friends! Sorry Gang, can't shoot someone over a banana plant however! There are many cowboys and indians too, as we are as far west as one can go, unless they want to end up in the Pacific Ocean. Rich Western culture, and independence and self sufficiency were taught in my generation. Now "entitlement" rather than ambition, is what is coming out of our schools. Hmmm, I wonder how many bananas I am entitled too? Hee Hee! Great to be a part of this lively intelligent group! After a lifetime in Law Enforcement, I'll say...Stay Safe, Alert & Alive...Tom
p.s. drop that banana plant sucker! Down on yer knees, hands behind yer head, bananas outta yer pocket! Hee Hee! :-)

That is why I never use my real name on-line. (good habit to get in to) In case anyone was wondering, my real name is not yug, nor is it Knobby D. Holme (say it fast a few times and you'll get the joke ). I typically post on a few politically oriented sites, and the folks that are my polar opposites are known to be pretty nasty and disrespectful (if not actually crazy) when it comes to respecting other's opinions so I developed the habit of using aliases.
