Just moved mine into a 15gal pot that has been staying between 78* and 85* and gets about 8hrs of direct sun. Lets see what happens now. Still all green but maybe there's something to the light/temps idea.

Even if some of these stay green, you have to admit this has been a lot of fun and we can always send them back. I've been checking several times a day for that first sign of red as the theme song from Jeopardy plays in my head.

Ear worm ... ear worm ... EAR WORM!

Bwahahahahaha! That's a funny mental picture!

Hope it's something that will help (the temps thingy - not the ear worm!). The root system seemed to pop w/heat, as well.

I just saw this, Joe - I think you're right (& great minds, etc - LOL!)

Mebbe I should spring for reading glasses instead of more nanas?

I think we're onto something! Tomorrow I'm gonna try to find a metal tray or something to boost the heat around the pot. I may even water it with warm water, although I'm not sure if thats a good idea.

Btw, mine has rapidly gone from very green to looking like the identical twin of the picture Steve in France posted at the top of page 14 of this thread.

I have noticed the leaves get damaged very easily , it maybe just my plant but the leaves are very thin at this point in it's growth. It's sure speeding up now we have 90's days and high 60's nights. It's still in full Sun from Noon til Sundown.

If it's a help - the black metal BBQ seemed to work better than the white washer. It gets warmed up pretty good from that, & seems to appreciate a regular drink from the hose (the soil WILL dry out more quickly - stay on that hose!). I think it might be prudent to hold off on the warm water till you try the metal surface, maybe?

And if that don't work ... threaten it w/a reaallly big stick!
(not sarcasm ... just having a really fine day & wanna play!)

If this turns out to be a heat-seeker, this winter is gonna be rough w/out greenhouses all around.

Updated pics from today,

Still green, but my temps have been highs of 75F to 88F and lows in the mid 60's, and getting about almost full day sun. But on a good note, It has started to pup! Does anyone else have one that has a yellow striping in the leaves (like the first pic)? Every leaf I get seems to have this. Could this be something I am doing?

Does that stripe go away? Is it on old leaves too?
I'm thinking it could do with the unraveling and maybe go away with time.
But maybe you have some sport that has some different genetic code.
Congrats on the pup, too.

BGreen, your looks just like mine, yellow striping included. In fact, mine is reluctant to unravel its leaves all the way now.

I don't think heat has a thing to do with whether or not mine (or yours) will change color or not. Mine has been out in the Tennessee heat and sun for several weeks now with no change at all. I would post a pic of mine today and show you, but I am sending my good old Canon Powershot A70 back to Canon tomorrow for repairs.

Jarred:
I can't really tell you if it goes away or not, because the older leaves got sun burned, but all the leaves have had the striping so far.

Brian:
Is your leaf striped on the left side, or is that a shadow?

BigDog:
Well I feel better knowing yours is striped too... At least that means it isn't caused by something I did.

Mine is striped too. Still green, but in many shades of it. A new leaf is about to open so we'll see if it stripes too.

A couple of nights ago I looked at it just before sundown. About two hours later I looked at it under the full moon and saw dark green splotches. I got a flashlight, and sure enough, in two hours it developed dark green patches. The next morning they were gone. This happens every night. Two hours after sundown it shows dark green splotches and patches running through it. I've never seen this with any other bananas.

Any ideas on what this is and why it happens?

Default Well this was totally unexpected ...

we have 'puppage'! A wee, little pup just popped up yesterday - stands at @ 1.5in from base to tip of leaf today.

I'm gob-smacked!

Wanted to share some new photos with everyone. Over the past few days I have had a few new developments!

Newest leaf with variegation!?!?

The tip of the little pup turning Red!?!?

If this little guy keeps this sort of thing up, I won't need new plants for a long time, lol.... Nah, I will still get new plants

Bgreen, how great would that look if you had a dark red pup attached to a bright green mother? Maybe this plant works like AeAe where the pups can be anything?
