Default Possible Nasty Computer Virus In A Thread

I opened a thread regarding Transgenic banana-banana biotechnology :wwwbiobananain
I selected to go to the website link and my wifes laptop started to show error screens and then restarted several times. DO NOT GO TO THAT WEBSITE!!

The computer does not power up now. It is a new computer. I am on another computer posting this. I hope this helps other people. Scot (Chironex) was the last person to post from that thread. He is now offline. I left him a PM.

I just called Andrew to find out where this occurred on the site. He said that it was in the photo gallery. I just went there and clicked all of the photos but found no ill effects. Apparently, it was something else.
I will continue to explore the rest of the site and will report anything unusual.

I just clicked on every menu item and drilled down several levels of links without finding a problem. My Norton Anti-Virus program would send an alert if there was any issue, but nothing came up. Everything is working normally. I wonder what could have caused Andrew's computer to shut down?
The site does not seem to be the issue causing the problem, so it is a mystery to me.

As I told Andrew, it is good that he reported it. Better safe than sorry.

I'm pretty sure I clicked on that link. Wasn't it a site about banana research being conducted by researcher in India? If it is that one I didn't have any problems. But I only went to the main page. I didn't click on any links there.

I am glad no one else had the problem. The computer would not power up.
1. I had to start the compter in safe mode.
2. Then I did s system restore to yesterday.
3. Next I went to Microsoft to see if my wife did not load the most recent updates. There were two high priority updates that did not load last week when they did on my other computers (7 in my ofice). I am loading the updates as I type on another computer.

I hope this fixes it!

You are very welcome! The computer is up but still loading a critical update. I am happy to hear I am the only one with a problem.

I clicked on the link and my computer stopped working correctly as well. I finally managed to get it to shut down and it seems OK now. I have seen the guy who "owns" that website on here before (in fact I've had it bookmarked for several months). I remember a year or so ago he kept posting over and over to get us to check out his website.

I would stay away from that site. I understand several people had no problem. I spent hours restoring and updating my computer (a pain in the ass). My tech guru does not think the problem came from my girls going to Nickelodeon. Dora the Explorer is your friend .

Unless you boot up in Windows to run software you can't buy for your Mac!

I've seen and used them!

I think I used one to check e-mail and the other to print my trip itinerary which I had forgot at home. Thanks!

Sherry, do you know anything about bananas or are you just here to market a software package which some users have openely spoken against?

Note: Sherry, who was promoting some unscrupulous scanning software, has had here posts deleted so some of the above comments seem out of place. Just thought I'd explain what happened.

Yesterday, I went to our banana.org web site. I think I just clicked on the main discussion menu, and immediately, pop up boxes came up and said that they were scanning my computer and my files and a virus was detected. At the same time, my Norton Utitilites told me that a virus was just blocked. The pop up boxes wanted me to click on the "Fix Now" boxes, but I didn't. I just closed them. I believe the pop-up saying that I had a virus was the actual virus or the prompt to get me to download the virus. It looked very real like it was from Microsoft's virus blocker. I'm not too worried about it because my Norton caught it, but I thought everyone should know.
