been off the board for a while... moving house, new baby etc.

BUT. now I'm back.

I moved 3 doors down the road and had to take 4 trailer loads of bananas and other plants down with me. the beauty of moving is a bigger garden and a brand new poly tunnel. so my question is this.

I have set up an automatic frost protection system that should hold the tunnel to about 5/6 degrees C minimum, anyone got any experience of watering levels over winter at this temperature? I have let things go about as dry as i dare as i don't want rot to set in.
any input would be great, will post some photos when i get a chance

I over winter hundreds of potted Bananas this way every year in Z8. Frost free and quite dry. I keep the pots fairly small to avoid overwatering

keep them dry, like you've already figured out.
If it's really sunny,you'll still have to water them occasionally, sometimes once a week to ten days in less sun, if they're really underpotted and rootbound, more often. Look for the same signs as in summer, if the leaves fold down and petioles crease, they're too dry.
I always lose 3-4 leaves per plant overwintering that way too.
After the days get longer, they'll start growing again.
