Well, the one with roots is a good sign, but it needs to get into soil. Cut away the rotten bits, plant them in a nice well draining media in about 3gal containers making sure to plant them a few inches below soil level, water lightly, keeping the soil moist and not allowing it to dry out and keep them warm, I like to put mine a lightly shaded spot outside. If they are going to make it, they should poke up in a few weeks, if you don't see any new growth though after about a month, still do not disturb them as they may still be working on growing roots. Good luck.

Gabe: Can I sprinkle some copper powder around where I cut out the rot to preventive further decay?

If you think it will help, sure. I've never used it though so I don't have any experience with it.

These are toast. Sad story. Someone else will have to be the source of this.

Buffy, don't pitch them yet. Can you send them to me and I will try to save them. If there is anything left of the meristem, perhaps we can bring them back from the dead via TC. PM me and we can make arrangements. No promises, but better than letting the trash man take them or throwing them into compost.
