There are some cooking bananas that blow standard plantains away. I grow a lot of macho plantains(200+) though, there is a great market for them.

That's just the general name for a "typical" false horn plantain. The tall ones are 14-16 feet, the dwarf ones are 7-8 feet.

I am talking about the entire plant, not just the fruit.

They are both great. However, bananas have to be eaten at the right time and plantains need to be cooked properly. Maybe your friends don't know how to cook plantains; give them your favorite recipies.

Where are you located? Plantains can be more difficult to grow in certain areas because they tend to be cold sensitive.

I finally tasted plantains down here in Homestead, Florida for the first time in my life early this year and loved it! If you know how to cook them they are a big time treat! I will probably plant some plantains in the next year.
