Plant Height
What is the consensus for determining the height of banana plants. Is it the height of the Pseudostem or the height of the tallest leaf?

Re: Plant Height
Pseudostem...ground to leaf emergence point.

Re: Plant Height
Don't know that there is a consensus on this, but I personally, when talking to people about my bananas refer to the overall height of the plant. Living where I do and mainly growing for the "tropical effect", I like to describe a banana by its overall height. I believe there is such varying heights of leaves, that measuring just the pstem height, doesn't give a person a feel of exactly how tall a plant is and how much room they need to give it. So, if you ever hear me say how tall one of my bananas is, I usually try and make sure I include the words, "overall height". That is just my opinion and why I use the overall height.
I do, however, believe that technically it is just the overall height of the pstem like Taylor is referring to... |
Re: Plant Height
I prefer to use pseudostem heights which I specify that is the case. But what is used in the Wiki pages as the height?

Re: Plant Height
If your talking with friends or hobby garden people about landscaping and plant impressions, or how much room a plant would require, sure, use overall height. But when reading papers and reviewing published information, it is always (supposed to be) pseudostem height as mentioned before.
