Question Plant in ground or pots now?

Howdee

I have a question I would appreciate help with...

It's almost August 1st, so...I was wondering should I transplant pups directly into the ground or simply pot them up and keep them inside/hothouse for the winter?

I guess is it too late to be planting nanna's in the ground here in South Louisiana?

Thanks in advance

Snookie

My vote is to pot it up for now and put it in the ground next spring. No need to let the pup be damaged by cold weather when you can protect it in the hothouse.

Hi Snooky,

your question is a bit premature IMOEO. You still have three full months to decide. I live in HZ6
and would have no hesitation to plant a banana with a PS of about 2 feet into the ground now,
even a month from now. Mama can certainly go into the ground anytime up to 6 weeks prior to
frost. even the babies may be big enough by then too. Of course, you may have to protect them,
when frost threatens. I usually wait until the leaves start freezing off and then slice the the PS
down to manageable size, protect them and let them hibernate in peace.

Dang,

My vote doesn't count since they are already potted!

Anyway, I just received some lovely pups, thanks Dan, and I will plant them in the ground. Come Winter I'll bury them in mulch

OR

If I don't think they have prospered enough I'll lift them and pot them then.

Here we may not get frost or freeze until late December. That's four to five months from now.

Life - Some assembly required, As is no warranty, Batteries not included, Instructions shipped separately and are frequently wrong!

Kentucky Bourbon - It may not solve the problem but it helps to make it tolerable!

Statistics - Data that analyst twist to support the insane opinions of those that pay them.
