Pictures of my beds and plants

Here is a picture of my super dwarf cavendish banana plants. They have been in the ground since April 16th, and they are finally starting to push out rapid growth since the temperatures have warmed up.

Here are some pictures of my sago palm that I planted today.

Here are a couple shots showing the whole bed along the house where the dwarf cavendish bananas are planted.

And now on to the backyard. In the bed along the back of the lawn I have 10 musa basjoo planted. Hopefully I can still get 6-8 feet out of them this season. Here are some pictures showing different angles of the bed.

And a wider angle. Don't mind the brown areas in the lawn. I used sand and filled in some low spots today. The grass will totally fill in those areas within the week.

I can't seem to stick to native Wisconsin plants. :)

Thanks for the pics Tim.

Are they SDC or just DC? You said both. I am hoping they are DC, you will get some nice shade there.

Also, I am digging the railroad tracks. Do trains still pass through there?

I think they are SDC. I got them from Steins this spring and they just said "Banana Plant". But researching them online from pictures, they seem to have a pretty compact growth which would eliminate them from being the full blown DC.

The tracks are pretty cool. A train goes by about once a day in the afternoon, so it's not much of an annoyance.

The pictures look very nice. They show that you love your garden. Please show them again, when the plants are bigger.
Tanks for the inspiration for my garden.

I love the bench, I would just think that the bananas may be a little close. They may be sitting next to you by the end of the year.

Re: Pictures of my beds and plants

Thanks for the comments guys and gals. This is my first year with bananas and tropicals and as you can see I'm going all out crazy already!

The grass is Penncross creeping bentgrass. I renovated my backyard last year and planted that in it. It's what golf courses use on greens and fairways. I keep it mowed at 1/2 inch.

The bench is ornamental. It's actually styrofoam with concrete cast over it, so if you sat on it...*SNAP*! I have 4 1/2 months to figure out how to protect my sago palm this winter. And I can't wait until my 10 musa basjoo's start pupping like crazy so I can fill up that entire mulch bed in my backyard and have a crazy thick banana grove!

Nice Washingtonia Robusta (Mexican fan palm). Do you know anyone
else in your area that has had one growing in their yard for more than
a year?? Didn't know those would be frost hardy enough to endure
zone 5 ? I am allways on the lookout for niew varieties of frost hardy palms to grow.

It looks very nice. The sight out of your window must be marvellous through the palm into your garden.

I'm probably going to enclose it and provide heat to keep it above freezing all winter. I don't want it to defoliate. Same with the sago palm.
