That stream is a blessing for growing banana plants.

Growing up, I spent the weekends at my father's home which was on a lake (my moms home around the corner was on a lake too, but we had a HOA and were not allowed to plant on the lake's edge). We had a mat of what were probably orinocos there at my dad's home. They were planted at the lake's edge. The mat was easily ten by ten feet around. We had ducks that would next inside the fallen leaves and p-stems. The mat grew and bloomed profusely with zero and I mean zero nurturing by anyone. The ducks would jump/fly up to chew off the flowers from the tips of the bananas. What memories!

Anyway, congrats on that property, it's perfect for serious banana growing.

Re: pic of garden

soak em!

You don't want a puddle around them all the time, but frequent watering is fine!

Sometimes, if the sun is burning burning hot, you might not want to water the leaves of young plants (or any for that matter..) because the droplets magnify the sun and can cause burn spots... that's just an overall general rule of gardening. When it rains, there's usually clouds that block the sun. So watering in full sun is not as natural as you would think.

But they love water! Imagine the plant as an inflatible pool toy. How long do you think it would take to fill that with water? Well thats basically what the plant did to get that size! And combine that with evaporation and the sun etc... It takes lots of water to get big plants.

I'm actually considering catching rainwater from the roof with a gutter system and storing it in basins that hook up to a drip system out to the plants with soaking hoses and drip tips etc.

Happy growing!
