It all depends on whether the plant it came from is sickly or not to begin with. A healthy well fertilized plant, in a regularly warm area, will give reasonable large bunches of bananas.

I give my a lot of care, I just don't have as many good growing months. It seems like everytime I see a bunch form orinoco, it has far less fruit on it then other types, including mine. I have 20 fingers on mine, I think.

Mine never grew as many fingers as the others either, and in my opinion, they are a bit ugly and don't taste that great. BTW, my Orinoco stand is history!

If I was where you were I am sure it would be history too, but that is about all that I have had luck with so far.

Interesting! I had 2 bunches ripen recently totalling 90lbs in all. The tall orinoco had about 12 fingers per hand and about 7 hands, so about 80 HUGE fruit per bunch. Each finger was so big that a person could barely eat a whole one themselves. They ripened on the plant and they were delicious but only when ripe to the point of being soft and puddingy! Even black skin has good edible fruit inside. The dwarf orinoco also had about 12 fingers per hand and I cut it down before it ripened on the plant because of one or other of the recent storms. These also were delicious but only when REALLY ripe. Momese, perhaps the not great taste was because you ate them too soon? Just a thought!
