Re: Orinoco blooming pictures
Hey Jarred.
Do you by chance have a pic of your orinoco bloom just as it begins to emerge? The bloom on mine has not yet fully developed. Last year I posted a pic of an unknown variety. Some thought it looked like IC, but as time passed, I decided it definitely wasn't. Wish I was wrong, because I'm thinking more than likely it is Orinoco. Too late in the season to worry about getting to do the taste test on this one. So many of you guys don't think much of O, huh? BTW... great pics you posted. Wish I had all those bloomin' bananas! |

Re: Orinoco blooming pictures
Jarred's surely is quite a bit taller than mine.... which happens to be a very tall 4ft of psuedostem. LOL
This is not a dwarf. Last year it was about 6ft. Anyone with ideas on why it didn't gain any height? |

Re: Orinoco blooming pictures
I have to go through old pics and see if I have any of the bloom when it first appeared and opened.
I just measured, it has 9 feet of pseudostem. Not a lot of demand for these as you can tell by the crickets on my Orinoco sales thread: Have: Orinoco Frank (bigdog) recently had a sale as well with no buyers from the looks of it. For Sale: Orinoco and Ice Cream pups They are nice looking though and fun to grow... they also taste pretty good, but personally I think the store bought ones may taste better. Although, these can be grown by people in tricky zones, they a a bit hardy, especially if stored or overwindered properly.

Re: Orinoco blooming pictures
I went through nearly everyone's galleries but couldn't find a pic of the bloom just emerging. Even went to webebananas and looked but all are full bloom pics. Darn it! Time will tell, though.
Yeah, they are fun to grow, just as you said. And the DO is such a pretty plant! |

Re: Orinoco blooming pictures
Are the angular fruit a charastic of the Orinoco? This looks very mch like one of my unid'd plants. Very easy to flower. I think mine may be the Dwarf...and how do I know when they are ripe?

Re: Orinoco blooming pictures
Jarred, are you sure this wasn't a normal Orinoco? It seems rather tall to be a Dwarf. Also, do you remember how many months it took/takes to fruit? I have what I think is a DO that's about 5 feet at the top of the pseudostem and it seems we have similar climates (I'll post a pic of it before the quote, let me know if you agree it's a DO). Thanks in advance
