Okay...what went wrong here?

I went out today to check on my plants, and I noticed that the main stem on my Mysore plant was loose. I gave it a few tugs, and it came right out! It was really odd, almost as if the corm it was growing off of rejected the pseudostem and just made it come off. The base where it came off was below the apical meristem, and all brown and mushy.

This is what the bottom of the p-stem looked like when it came out.

I did a sort of "autopsy" on the p-stem and the apical meristem itself seemed to be intact. What I noticed is that the p-stem seemed to detach from the corm below the apical meristem. To me, it looks rotted. No wonder this p-stem wasn't growing, it had no corm to grow off of! How could this have happened? Should I be worried about the rest of the corms on the mat and the pup that is coming up from one of them?

I had the same thing happen to a couple of freshly planted basjoos last year. I noticed some type of bug at the base of my plant, kinda like a beetle. Figured it was some type of insect, or possibly to much water??? Wish I could be more helpful.

It's fine. The main stem was probably going to die anyways. I hope it wasn't a bug...

Here in southern CA we've had a lot of rain since you planted that Mysore. I'll guess it was both a bit too wet and a stress from being rocked back and forth by the wind.

The corm might be salvageable. Give it a chance to grow a new shoot.

There's actually three corms on the mat, and there's already a sucker coming up from one of them.

Weird! Did you check the other ones? I would, and look for bugs as well. Though it seems to be very flat, so maybe it wasn't bugs. Keep us posted I am interested to know.

Looks like the wind cracked it and it rotted from the moisture getting in there.

I haven't had any issues with bugs in the past, but I've only been growing bananas since last July. The new sucker on it is growing vigorously right now.
