Ok,now you have me curious

So set me straight. The Blue Java,Ive read articles (not here) but from different online sources: is creamy and taste like vanilla ice cream. But, as I have seen some of you post; its texture is like ice cream but does not taste similar.
Ok, thats good to know.
Let me ask about the nam wah, that is sold as ice cream banana by some venders on the internet. What does it taste like? Better? sweeter? than the Blue Java.
I want to attempt a real banana producer and really wanted to awe my friends with the Blue Java.
I live in zone 8. And I feel pretty sure I can get my plants thru the winter without bringing them inside. My only worry here is; the plant flowering and the banana coming on in late autumn or fall. Im gonna give it a go anyway.
I have no troubles with the Musa Basjoo. That plant is crazy, it keeps on coming back and going strong.
Well, Im rambling.
Education appreciated,
John

You might as well ask that question about a Pear and an Orange. They taste different and as you know, taste is subjective.

You're dreaming! They take 18 months to flower here in 10b without freezing temperatures. But there are people on this forum who successfully fruit bananas in your zone and they're sure to help you along.

Dreaming,no Im not dreaming lol. I feel pretty confident I can keep the plant alive and in the ground thru winter. Its the flowering and fruiting that has me concerned. Plus I have TyTaylor as a coach. He lives a little south and west of me.
Yes, the two differ that much in taste???
Thanks,
John
we have mild winters here. last winter was a bad one tho,for us. the parish I live in misses the worst of the storms for some reason.

Then maybe you're not truly in zone 8.

There's a lot of variation in taste once you get away from Chiquita. For my climate and tastes, Namwa and Mysore are my favorites so far.

I would take the Namwah over the Ice Cream, any day. Namwah is very dense, smooth textured with a bit of an apple cider flavor. ice Cream has never done anything for me, flavor wise, but there are a lot of people who rave about it.

I love both! Musa Namwa is a very sweet banana. It is very dense and good tasting banana. I’m not sure if I would eat them everyday, but I do like them. Slightly creamy. Nothing like vanilla ice cream and no vanilla taste.

Blue Java to my taste buds not only tastes better than namwa but blows away the namwa taste! Still no vanilla ice cream taste!! It has a very very good sweet banana taste. They are also very creamy. When yellow I like them best and I ALWAYS force ripen them with ethylene! If not you risk chewy spots and a hard core. I treat them exactly like a bluggoe. Hopefully those I sent a few fruits to last year can report what they think! I enjoy reading what others opinions are! Good and bad! Everyone’s taste buds are different. My wife and son love black licorice!! And just the smell makes me almost gag!

Just don’t expect vanilla ice cream! If you want that you better goto the freezer section! But both are good bananas and worth growing. To me the added bonus of blue java is the cold hardiness. They can take much colder temps than namwa. As of now they are by far the best tasting cold hardy Musa.
