November Nor'easter Damage in Virginia Beach
Hi everyone,
Here are some pictures of the damage to my plants and greenhouse after the 'November Nor'easter' that has sat on top of us for the past 3 days. The last few pictures are of the damage done just in my neighborhood. Fortunately, our neighborhood is situated pretty high up and didn't flood like many other parts of Hampton Roads did. Please be respectful, the damage is quite extensive and will take a while for everything to return to normal, especially in the last few pictures. You'll see that a tree cut right through our friend's house. A barge washed ashore and is expected to break the Sandbridge Pier off the building overnight, as well as another fishing pier was destroyed locally. I just learned while typing this that the most popular local restaurant on the Chesapeake Bay has collapsed into the water. The highest wind gust reported in my city was 75 MPH, with somewhere in between 10 and 15 inches of rain so far. It is still raining. Almost 200,000 people were without power, us included. We are lucky to have it back so quickly. Re: November Nor'easter Damage in Virginia Beach
Nor'easter Ida. Ida did less damage as a hurricane and tropical storm than as a nor'easter!
Wow. |

Re: November Nor'easter Damage in Virginia Beach
Hope you're safe Taylor. Some friends here on the barrier islands now have water in their living rooms. I was going down to fish tonight but will wait till after it passes and check out the beach on Sunday, you never know what will wash up.. I have relatives down in Ashburn who are ok but I hear it's pretty nasty down there too.

Re: November Nor'easter Damage in Virginia Beach
Taylor, that's some damage alright. I hope you can get things back to normal very soon. The good thing is that bananas recover quickly.

Re: November Nor'easter Damage in Virginia Beach
Wow, terrible. We got some of that noreaster too, but definately not even close to that! The winds shook the traffic lights and the plants on my backyard table fell off, and leaves were everywhere, but not too many trees down (just small branches). We certainly lucked out, but unfortunately it looks like you didnt. I feel like the gulf coast didnt even get it as bad as north carolina and virginia did.
Hope it all works out, it looks like there will be alot of cleaning in store for your area. Good luck! :) |
Re: November Nor'easter Damage in Virginia Beach
Wow, didn't realize things got so rough. Hope you and your neighbors can recover okay. We had a bad storm a month ago but it only lasted a day.

Re: November Nor'easter Damage in Virginia Beach
Thanks, everyone.
It's been 2 days since the storm left, and today was the first time the sun has been out since this past Tuesday. I still haven't gotten the roof back up on the greenhouse, but that's only because I need a helper and the rest of the family is busy with their own stuff as well. There is a hefty layer of leaves over most of the yard, so they will have to be gotten up. I've been propping some of the bananas back up, as well. |
Re: November Nor'easter Damage in Virginia Beach

Re: November Nor'easter Damage in Virginia Beach
I hate to see that kind of stuff...
I feel your pain! Back in 04 we got hit pretty hard here in central Florida the storms knocked a huge tree down in my front yard that if it fell the other way I probably wouldn't be here right now. I spent 6 days with a chain saw helping all my neighbors out, siphoned all the gas out of one of my cars to keep the chain saw running. After all that someone frickin stole the chain saw after my son left it in the front yard on a stump for a few hours... |
Re: November Nor'easter Damage in Virginia Beach
Dang, Taylor...that's bad. I was just thinking about you over the weekend. I told my wife that I needed to check in with you and that I bet you had bananas laying all over the place. Unfortunately, I was correct. I hope you are able to recover soon. Glad I was on vacation there when I was and not last week. Geez.
