Tried to take some pups for a friend, and spread out this clump a bit. Did not work so well, I guess the heat is not helping.

My other large plant is doing great.

With the heat and drought you are expericening, in my opinion you may disturb the plant too much and cause serious setacks. Let thing go until the climes return to the normal for you area and maybe they will cooperate with you wishes. If you are uncomfortable then it is for sure that they are also.
