Is this normal growth?
All my banana corms I have received this winter are growing nicely!
But my 1 of my Orinoco is growing strange. Maybe its fine, but being new to banana growing iam not sure whats happening! I have 3 pictures here of it. I noticed it had a little protusion on the lower part of the stem, then it split; and the growth on it started growing more and more. Can anyone PLEASE tell me whats going on with it. What do you think? Thanks for all and any help.............. Lynn

Re: Is this normal growth?
guess what???? your gonna have new leaves!!! oscar did that, where the leave poked out the side. when i first saw this i thought of 'alien'. i swear i did,no joke. brutus my saba dosent grow that way. however on my oronicos i have noticed this. my oscar and the 3 dwarf orinocos i just got a week or so ago are doing this so its got to be this species. then when you get your second or third leaf, they are big enough to wrap a mini cooper in. im so happy for you! i get excited when mine get a new leaf. congrats.

Re: Is this normal growth?
Yea it's just recuperating from being chopped off momma. The size of the new leaves and growth will be sustained by the size of the root system now that it's been altered.
Nothing to worry about, the old growth will fold over and that will shoot up.

Re: Is this normal growth?
Yes I have had the same thing happen when either i cut the p stem or it started to rot out ,because the new growth could not push threw the top it pushed it self out from the side! Jason.

Re: Is this normal growth?
See it happened to my Red Kru a few years ago, shortly after I received it (that one was actually a TC, the only kind I could find available [these don't transplant well anyway]). A couple years and a couple bunches with lots of fruits later, all is fine
