I tried searching the forums but was unable to find what I needed easily. I have some surplus basjoo's that are about a year old and 4 ft tall. They are in 3 gallon pots. If I were to sell some of these online, I have a few questions.
Can you cut these back to sell corms at any time or only during certain seasons? Are there other cost effective ways to ship these other than just corms? What is the recommended means of shipping? ups ground? priority mail? etc? Thanks for your help. - Brett |

I would try your local craigslist and sell them as is first. You may sell them all that way. This there is no shipping and you can leave them in their pots. Just my thoughts. Red

The corm can be dug up, trimmed and shipped any time of year as long as the temps are not freezing. A frozen corm is a dead corm!
I usually ship priority but first class may work. I recently had a problem shipping to Canada via UPS but that was the first time I've had any issues with any shipper. I personally recommend some serious cleaning and root removal before shipping and be warned that shipping some plants to and from some states is not legal. You may want check into that before shipping.

I'm in southern Indiana. Mainly into bromeliads....just had some basjoo's i raised to sell at a show a couple weeks back. Had a guy give me a call today wanting to buy me out ..but I'm sure you all know how that goes. I was just curious to know how you all ship bananas. Thanks for the responses.

Just realized you were in my state. Pm me if you want to talk a swap. I'd rather do that than sell any day. =)

If you can find those long triangle priority mail boxes, those seem to be the best for shipping bananas intact, or at least most of the stem included.

Right on! Thanks for saying so, because I always buy my own tape, so getting it free should save me a little money.

I've got a lot of those boxes and I appreciate the info. I was just making sure that I wasn't missing something.
Thanks again. |

They won't give you tape anymore, not on the website anyway.

You're right Sandy, I don't see it there anymore. That's too bad, packing tape gets expensive. I wonder if you can still get a roll at the post office or if they just let you use theirs?

a roll of clear packing tape runs about 2.97 at walmart. you can also get the clear tape with the cutter on the end for like 3.25.

I like to add a stiffener (stiff cardboard or wooden dowel) to the middle of those boxes, 'cause every one that I've gotten had been bent in the middle

Thanks again. |
