Default No Fruit

First off, I'm in SE Florida, near Palm Beach. About 5 years ago I put in a plant I bought at Home Depot. Don't have a clue what variety, but the fruit is/was small, I guess finger bananas? After about two years I produced a large stalk of fruit; however, either my monster dog or local wildlife broke the stalk and all was lost. Since then I've often gotten a new florescence but at the most one fruit, usually none. Many flowers, no fruit. I remove the old stalk after the false alarm, I water, and I feed a balanced fertilizer. What am I doing wrong? As we speak I have one fruit.

Welcome to bananas.org

Many flowers? Only one fruit? Maybe it is an ornamental plant or it almost sounds like not even a banana plant (hahaha home depot you said...) Most banana growers on here are happy to just get ONE flower!

Please notice I said " MIGHT "... Buying a banana plant from any big big store is kinda like dating in high school.. Ya just never know what your getting. One of my closest friends has banana plants I gave him . He never gets large bananas because he seems to forget to feed his bananas..
