to nick or not?

:2791: Have some seeds of sikkimensis and musa ensete(the one with reddish leaves). Should they be nicked after soaking or not? should they be covered or in bright light? sprouted a few palm seeds, but this is my first time with bananas.

Re: to nick or not?

I think most people have agreed NOT to nick. I also read somewhere about someone testing this "nicking theory" on musa species. (Sorry cant remember where.) But I think they came to the conclusion that "nicking" is unnecessary, and may even inhibit germination because of bacterial attacks.

erlend is right, do not damage the seed coats. also most species will do better in a sunny location.
