Default Newbie with banana plants

Hey!
I have had 2 banana plants, the first died probably to root rot (planter was too deep and not well drained). I do not know what species my current small plant is since i got it from supermarket. It just doesn't seem to grow. It stays small, not a lot of new leaves and no tall growth at all.

Now the plant is on balcony with glass windows and its like greenhouse in there, warm, lots of sunlight and not too dry. I added some fetrilizer sticks.

I would really love to get a tall, sturdy banana plant but it seems impossible

Beautiful plant.
If you are able to move your new plant outdoors and slowly introduce it to direct sun the plant should sort itself out in no time.
If you purchased it at a market there is a good chance it is a dwarf variety and should stay somewhat small.

It probably is a dwarf but isnt it still supposed to grow to be about 2m tall?
I am just little worried that I am doing something wrong.

There are different dwarf type banana plants.
Some ornamental banana plants are cute and small and will stay small.

Some of mine are 1/2m to 2m...so it depends which one you have.
Banana plants need full sun to reach their full potential and do best outdoors in the summer.

It looks like your doing everything right..it will take 2-3 years for your plant to reach mature height.

welcome to the org. we are glad to have you!
Your little one looks like a dwarf cavendish, seen them around the supermarkets.

cincinnana is right, putting it outside will help it grow however it is a very compact variety.

happy growing
Darla

Yes, agree looks like dwarf cavendish - and a happy one - label on those at our local supermarket say 3 to 4 feet max height.

Should i water the plant to saucer or directly to the container?
Also, is multipurpose plan fertilizer good enough? I don't believe banana fertilizers are available where i live (in the north).

Water to the top of the pot and raise the pot drain holes above any water that drain into the saucer. Do not reuse this water. ...Misting the plants leaves a couple of times a day will do a lot of good for the plant while giving the time needed for allow the pot soil to dry out between watering.

I would foliar feed the plant once a week and only add a tea spoon of balanced fertilizer (vegetable garden mix) about every 45-60 days during the summer. Use Miracle Grow and follow the box directions for foliar feeding.
