New owner in Okie. Needs lots of advice
I got 2 banana trees today and 1 has 2 sprouts in the pot with it. So I guess that makes 4 total. So here goes my lots of questions.
*Can I seperate the 2 sprouts from the main tree? *Do they need a very sunny location? *Or do they need partial shade, live morning sun and evening shade? *Do we have any Okie people on here that have has success growing them and producing fruit? * Do I have to dig them up before the first freeze or cut them down and mulch over them? Thanks |

Re: New owner in Okie. Needs lots of advice
Welcome to the banana nut club.
Help with your questions... 1. I would not separate the pups yet. 2,3. In the ground they will need plenty of sun, in pots, maybe 4-5 hours, mainly so you don't hafta water so much. Others who container grow bananas can help more. 4. I believe we have several in your zone who are fruiting nanas 5. That depends largely on the type you bought. Few kinds will survive there outside. Basjoo will, I know. Use the search button up there and learn... Enjoy!

What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more. |
