New Member - New Plot
Hello Banana Lovers!
I moved several types of banana plants from my father's Patch in Miami to my home in Orlando, Florida. I have been quite successful I think because all are thriving and after about 5 years in the ground I have had one flower, though it was cut short by an unexpected late freeze. So I have freezes here but these plants grew up where there are no freezes so they may not be ideal. But my termite inspector mentioned that the view outside my bedroom window, just at the roof drip line would be a perfect site to add more bananas because of the late morning shade offered by a North East exposure. So I have a long section to add a new row, but I want to try to get a producer for this location instead of just my dad's legacy plants. I prefer a variety of fruiting types, I plan to consume as well as share with my food coop if I am successful. So i came to introduce myself and perhaps get some ideas. Please offer any and all advice. I shop at Lukas Nursery if any of you are nearby.

Re: New Member - New Plot
We are same zone just 100 miles west. Not an authority but hope to grow some nice plants. There are 15 varieties here and we are testing to find out what will and what won't do good here. There is a good place in Homestead that has a lot of info also. Going Bananas.com, not sure if the url is correct but just google if not. You will get a lot of info from the members around you or nearby and they will bring you up to date. We did find out that with our sand pile we live on the plants need lots of water and feed. Good luck and keep us posted.
