New flower
I was checking out the leaves on my dwarf brazilian and noticed a big red flower that I didnt see before, it was hiding. This is my first banana plant. What do I need to do now if anything different? I'm really hoping for fruit soon. Also all the plants are really producing pups now.

Congrats! The first one is super exciting. Good timing.

Re: New flower
Congrats! You may need to prop up the bunch depending how big it gets. That said I've never had to prop a DB bunch, but my stand does have some wind protection.

Well I got a 4gb sd card at walgreens for $8 Ill have a pic later. Is there a set of pics out there that shows the progression of the flower, I think mine might have been there for a while because it looks like its already opening. |

Re: New flower
Finally got some pics, I bought an SDHC card and didnt realize that they wont work with all cameras. So I just waited for the old SD cards. I took a few pics, its hard to take a good shot because theres leaves that cover it.
The flower already opened and now has several bananas, those red leaves are falling and a sticky substance is falling from the flower attracting wasps. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] |

Re: New flower
yea those white flys came from my plumerias, I could never get rid of them. I cut all the leaves off in the winter hoping to get them all, I have used neem but they come back. I was going to spray the leaves yesterday with water and a lil micronutrient but as I was pumping the sprayer it exploded

Re: New flower
more photos, p-stem looks about 7.5 feet, not sure how to get exact measurement, that shoot off to the right is where the flower connects.

Re: New flower
Beautiful.
I think the "proper" way to get the height at fruiting is to measure to the bottom of the peduncle, i.e., the bottom of the fruit stalk where it emerges from the pseudostem. |
