![]() The liquid gypsum will interact with the clay, and over time reduce it's "sticky-ness" (ionic bonding). In addition, the compost material (slightly acidic carbonaceous material) Nate is adding will then be able to penetrate it and further make the clay somewhat more hospitable for plant roots.

![]() All right guys, here's my update. Beds finished, check. Plants in, check. Border up, check. Sidewalk relayed, check. French drain to drain beds, check. Back, still in check. I also found I had too many new nana's so I built a new island bed with the sandstone I found at the back of my lot. Done except mulch. Enough for this year. Next year the island bed will be next to my koi pond and waterfall. Aw hell, I might do it this year. I also got all the beds on the N and W of my house raised up w/compost a good 6" and reorganized. I feel so much better now. I loved what I had last year but all I could think about all season was how I was gonna do it better next year. I'm kinda doing the same this year though. I'm a bit of a perfectionist. First pic is last year. Second pic is this spring. Last 3 are present day.-Nate

![]() Just re-read this thread and we did the same thing. We have the banana bed over a french drain. But then we made two raised beds that are terraced for vegetables that runs length wise along our pool in which the drainage had to be worked on as we woke up one morning to a pond instead of a swimming pool!
You're beds look so beautiful!! I can sure appreciate the work you put into that. Deb |

![]() Nate is the picture you posted on 07/18/2008 that area now? If so it's looking great! I'm thinking more and more how about I go planting things. This thread is very useful for that. By the way, what did you do with the excess clay?

![]() Yep, it is. Thanx for the compliment. The rest of the pics are in my gallery. The clay. Dumped it on the edge of my drainage ditch to raise the sides up.

![]() Okay, I'll have to go back and look at the pictures again. I have some excess I need to get rid of and am debating on what to do with it.
