New to bananas new to bananas.org

So I have planted a couple of plants in my backyard which seem to be doing well. I have a dwarf cavendish and a larger one not sure what it is, I just have a couple of questions. the cavendish is pupping up four new suckers (not sure if the are water or sword) when can I dig them out to separate? Also is it normal to cut them down to the ground in winter?

As for your 1st question in my opinion the longer you wait the more the roots will get developed, but i imagine you can cut them whenever as long as they have root support. I'm no expert, but some of these folks are, so someone please correct me if i'm wrong!
As far as cuttin them down, depends on the type of naner and your winter temps, cause some just hate the cold period, and need to be wintered out of the ground.(inside) BTW, naners lookin good!

This is not my pic, found it on the web somewhere, but it's a simple guild line though for cutting pups, (in case you didn't know.)

I usually wait to take pups when they are at least 1.5 ft. tall, that's just me.
I never cut my bananas back for winter, you will lose out on growth ocasionally by cutting them back. I usually wrap the shorter varieties like Dwarf Cavendish, Raja-Puri with garbage bags of leaves or grass clippings to give them a head start during the spring for potential fruit setting. I just pile pine straw around the base of the plants also. Your milage may vary.
