New addition to a young collection!
Since I rekindled my interest in growing musa at home early-spring 2017, things are going well! I started by raising 3 musa sikkimensis from seed, of which the largest one is almost shoulder height now, and then earlier this summer I ordered a Veinte Cohol and a Namwah from Asean Plant Export in Thailand (formerly called Gekko). Both are catching on really well:
The Namwah is the larger one in the back. Both just finished producing their 3rd leaf. [IMG][/IMG] Being five plants and 3 species in, I again ordered 2 Musa Hom Kreaks from Asean last week, and yesterday they arrived! [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] I decided on the Hom Kreak after asking Peter for recommendations for indoor musas. It is a mutant of the Super Dwarf Cavendish, which will stay even smaller but still produce edible fruit, so they sound very promising One will stay at home, the other might move to my office as soon as their jet lag has passed and they get used to living in Belgium Why is it so addictive to collect bananas?

Re: New addition to a young collection!
All your plants are beautiful!
I do agree. It's very addicting to collect banana plants, and I myself can't seem to stop collecting them even though I've run out of garden space! So far I have Truly Tiny (Which has not produced any edible bananas in 2 years. Huh.), Dwarf Cavendish, Raja Psiang, Goldfinger, Hua Moa, Dwarf Maoli, Double Mahoi, and Dwarf Iholena. Trying to collect an Ice Cream banana plant from a local seller. It's like collecting pokemon. |

Re: New addition to a young collection!
Thanks!!
The winter has had it's effects on their looks, but they are still all 7 alive and healthy. I can't wait for spring to see them take off again! You seem to have an interesting selection of plants as well. Let's hope for edible fruit in the near future! As for a bananas anonymous group... I'm too far down the rabbit hole too

I need to figure out how to increase the addiction so locals will buy more banana plants like the cigarette companys did in the 50s/60s/70s. |

Re: New addition to a young collection!
Update:
Both plants are thriving after a slow, sad winter. Almost one new leaf per week now but they stay tiny! Soon I'll repot them and put them on a regular feeding schedule to try and get them to flower! I bought them as a pair with the idea to give one as a present to a friend, but as you can see that turned out differently Perhaps I'll give him one of the pups later. Perhaps.
