Default Neglected Valery Corm Produced Many Pups

I thought I'd share this photo that I took recently.

Several months ago, I had dug up this huge Valery corm and haphazardly discarded it in a corner. I didn't pay much attention to it, but then I noticed that pups started growing from the unrooted corm. There are 8 pups so far. It only gets an occasional squirt of water as I'm passing by with the hose. This illustrates how resilient these plants can be!

NOICE! (that's my Australian 'nice!' if you didn't catch that) Yeah, bananas are pretty tough plants....I mean, how many other plants can you chop off, dig up the roots of and toss in a heap to die and they still grow?? Very few. That's almost an identical story to how I got my first plants. Corm got chopped up and discarded in the compost pile at my work....and sprouted into 7 healthy plants!

Thanks for sharing!

Its fascinating how tough it is! I would plant it again now just for the sake of its survival till now!!! But if you got no space for it,i would surely be more than glad to take a pup...

Thanks for the comments everyone!

After I dug it up, I planted a large pup that I'd removed. I gave the gigantic corm to my neighbor, who planted it in his yard. He had more room than I did, as my yard is already filled with banana plants and other tropicals.

Valery is pretty cold hardy, have you tasted the fruit?

Gotta love Australia and Aussie accent. It's one of my dream countries. If it wasn't using the Internet filter and Kevin Rudd was more of a prisoner, that is.

Yes, that Valery did bear fruit. In fact, the photo in my avatar is one of the bunches from that plant. It was very tasty!
