Need to know if these look old enough to pick and ripen off of the plant

Hello banana heads,

It's going to hit freezing tonight and this bunch has been on the plant for a while. Do they look like they are old enough to remove and let ripen indoors ? Need to know asap.

Having issues posting the photo for some reason.

Got it, posting photos from gallery on mobile is not user friendly.

I wish I had the the answer but they do look filled I'm sure someone with more experience can answer that. but if its going to freeze what do you have to lose by cutting them off if they freeze they will be ruined. still I would wait for someone with more knowledge to answer that.

Did it, they are on my kitchen table. Surprised at how thick the part that was holding the bunch was. Looks like 20-25 bananas so not bad for my first fruiting banana. I would post a photo but for some reason I cannot upload it.

Possible frost here tonight, definite frost tomorrow night here in Palm Bay and it was 82 yesterday. Of course my 3640 just finished blooming a week ago. Fungus, bugs, nematodes, two hurricanes and now this... I don't think I will get to ripen a bunch ever again.

And I thought all I had to do is move south and all my banana growing problems would be over!
Good luck!

Not yet, putting in a paper bag with other bananas ripening did not work with the ones I tried. Going to give the oven method a shot this weekend.

put them in a large bag plastic or paper bag and put a cut in half ripe apple in with them the apple gives of ethelyne gas and they will ripen in less than a week used this method on a bunch of blue java that was much less filled out than yours and all turned nice and yellow and some of the plumper ones were actually prety good eating the unfilled ones had almost no flavor

I'll give it a shot, Grabbing an apple tomorrow and some large zip locks as I do not eat apples normally.

A paper bag works best for me. It traps the ethylene but still allows air and oxygen to exchange. Then i would add 2-3 apples. With slightly underripe bananas you want them to ripen as fast as possible. The longer they sit around the worse they get. Those look perfect! Cut em before the next frost.

To ripen whole bunches i slip big trash bags over the whole bunch and toss in a few apples. To give away, etc. for me i like to cut them into hands or half hands and either ripen them in a paper bag or even a cardboard box.

Trust me if i know anything it’s under-ripe bananas LMAO.
Good luck! Let us know how they are.

Also the oven may turn them yellow but they won’t be ripe! You need ethylene!!. Apples apples and more apples! Uncut whole apples!
