Hey everyone,
Slowly, over the past couple of months my banana tree has been dying. I recently bought a house which has a great garden and the dying banana tree. I'm pretty proficient with gardening, but I've never owned a banana tree before. I've attached some pictures. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could check 'em out and let me know what you think is going on. Thanks so much! -zach ![]() ![]() |

I suspect it's about to flower, it's about the right size, some ensetes lose their leaves before or during flowering. Have you had a look in the middle where the leaves grow from? Is there a big bud? You may be surprised.

Could be about to flower, and when it does, it will die. They are propagated from seeds.

THANK YOU so much for the responses! I really appreciate it. I'm so happy I found this forum.
Wow--so if it's going to flower, it dies, and then that's it? It's over? Will it regrow, or will I have to remove the whole trunk and replant a new one? Also, does anyone know what kind of tree it is, so i can find more information about it? Thanks again. I'm totally new to this, so your help is super appreciated! zach |

Unfortunately, ensetes like that one don't usually produce pups, so it will die. You could try and salvage the underground corm and force it to pup. Edible types pup and although the main stalk dies after flowering, there are pups that come up to replace it and flower again.
