Default Mystery Growth?

Could anyone identify what is going on with this Variegated Florida that just came in? I thought it was maybe a surprise pup, but it looks like it's the main growth that erupted from the side. I've never seen this happen to any of my other bananas. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It was choked, the leaves where jammed up and broke out the side. It will straighten itself out.

Thank you for your knowledge! Should I cut back all that growth that's straight up so it can focus putting leaves back out through that area that broke out? Or should I just let it be?

I suggest cutting the pstem at the breakout and then split it open to see the chock.

Could you explain what a pstem is? Is that the existing growth?

Pstem short for Pseudostem. This is made up of the leaf sheafs as new leaves grow. Each new leaf grows from the corm center of the group to the top. The pstem looks like the 'tree trunk' section. ... You need to split one open to learn how the plant grows.

I don't remember where this diagram is but it is here somewhere. ....

Got it! Thank you for all the knowledge. Just to clarify, are you saying to cut at the red line, or blue line? I'm guessing the red since that's where base of the pstem seemed to burst out. The blue line I'm guessing will eventually die off?

Move the blue line down to th breakout and cut there. The upper part of the stem will die as the current leaves die. ALL new leaves will be from the stem now growing from the side at the red line.
