My Poor Praying Hands

Well I come home this evening, and find my neighbor has a new wood gate to his backyard installed today.I then find my praying hands laying flat on the ground broken from the corm and broken from being stepped on.I then went next door and asked to speak with my neighbor to find out why somebody went ahead and entered my planter box and damaged my banana plant. He called the landlord about the situation and he said he will come and see what happened tommorow. My wife waited for me to come home from work before she told me what happened to my praying hands banana so she wouldn't ruin my day at work. But when I found out I was so pissed off I even called Mitchel "Momese" to tell him what had happened to me.I will just have to wait till Thursday evening to chat with this contractor and find out which one of his sub contractors had the idea to go and destroy my banana plant. He better pay for a new one to be replaced.I need to go and chillax with a drink I am so MADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!

This Sucks

I would have 'banana rage' so bad that they would need to buy a larger one to replace the one that they crunched. It would be difficult to fight the urge to escalate the situation. My gut reaction would be retaliation, but then hopefully, I would be able to show maturity and discretion, reason and patience......naaahhh, I would probably have to yell, get red-faced, and accuse them of being the progeny of incestuous apes.

Mitch,

Sorry to hear about this, bro. I'm getting ready to have my fence repaired and my roof replaced thanks to Ike and I'm really worried about my landscape. My Ae-Ae is about a foot and a half away from the fence. I'm considering putting some fence posts around it to keep the contractors away. My wife met with the contractor earlier in the week and told him to please be careful around our plants. I was unable to meet with him myself due to work obligations but he told her he was a plant lover too and would be as careful as possible. All I can say is he'd better be; when our painter got overspray all over my plants and other items in the lawn back in the spring he never got all of his money!

Good luck getting compensation for your Praying Hands.

General rule of thumb is be present when any contractors are present. They only care about what they are doing, how to get it done quicker, easier, and definitely do NOT care about plants. I am sure there are exceptions, but I have never met a contractor that takes any care with plants, even if you make it an issue up front.

That sucks, I'd have seriously yelled at someone - even after the fact.

Some folks just don't get it - they're not "just plants."

I know how you must feel. I came home one day and my neighbor had just laid a new patio next to "our" fence. He specified a rock salt finish (the rocksalt is pushed into the patio surface) and then he washed the 10 lbs of rocksalt into the fenceline...and killed 4 of my nectarine trees! I planted them for my wife, as it's her favorite fruit, and also to screen our bedroom window from their back yard.

I have since added 50lbs. of gypsum, and leached out the salts, and then replaced them with 3 other nectarines, but they do not give the brilliant fall colors the dead trees did. Those other trees absolutely GLOWED in the fall with golds, yellows, reds, and rust colors. The replacements look nice, but don't have the WOW effect of the first ones.

Good luck with your recovery, and I'll echo Island Cassie, and say get it replaced quick before it starts growing...

Re: My Poor Praying Hands

Well this evening I was visited by the homeowner next door about 15 minutes ago.I had a light ready before he showed to show him what his repairman did but anyway's he reached into his tool box on his work truck to grab his flashlight so he could see better. He had the gump to tell me that I was crazy to be so mad and pissed about the loss of this banana, and of accusing his day labors that they broke it.I showed him the plant and he started to walk away.I told him that I wanted to be compensated for the loss so he told me to fax over the invoice to this number he rambled out of his mouth so fast I didn't have anything to write on.So as he went off running away with out telling me that he would reimburse me and he threw his flashlight back in the tool box so I tossed in my invoice for the one that I had bought from Stokes Tropicals.I had to ask him when I would be reimbursed.I told him I wanted to order a replacement this week he got so mad about it so he wrote me a check for $57.90 to replace my Praying Hands so as he drove off cussing at me for be a prick about the poor banana he called it and for causing a problem being his neighbor.I am going to celebrate tonight with a toast to winning my case.

I got my way tonight and I feel really good.

Way to go Mitch. That sucks, but alas, justice is served. Sucks though that it's your neighbor that you have to look at every now and then... that's not a healthy situation, hope you guys make amends sometime.

I don't have to see his face everyday only when he has to come over to fix stuff for the renters. He owns the house but uses it as a rental, and I didn't want to get the renters involved so I had to do this without there help.I got his number from another neighbor who knew him when he lived in that home he owns next door to me.

So if there are any Praying Hands pups available that are in excellent shape let me know I may be looking to buy one soon.I wont be planting my new one where the other one was broken.I will leave the corm that is still under the dirt there and see what happens.

Hey thats to bad what happened to your banana,,but I would save the $57.00 and buy another kind of banana plant that you want and just let the praying hands come back from the corm,,,wouldnt he be pissed if he new that the plant was not dead and will come back from the root and will probably pup like crazy because of the mom being cut down!! Take care-Jason.

Glad to hear this went your way Mitch. Good luck with the replacement - at least the other one will pup in the spring.

You know I am going to save that money and use it on something else and let that praying hands corm grow.I will use it on another fruit tree for my yard.

Re: My Poor Praying Hands

Hi Mitch - My praying hands has a few pups just starting to come through the soil, so if you still want one in the spring, I will be glad to send you one gratis. We've got 30 degrees and snow today, so I wouldn't think of sending one now until its warmer. I am sorry for you, and I would feel the same deep sense of loss you did. There are alot of sad people out there; I actually have to feel sorry for what a cardboard life the guy (contractor) must have.... And in defense of other contractors, I know one (my hubby) who loves these green things too, and has gone to great lengths to spare plants. Including digging up azealeas to replant them for the homeowners, and creating protective "coats" out of 2x4's for trees that were close to a new addition so that they would not be scraped. But I'd have to agree he's pretty rare. My offer stands on the praying hands....

I couldn't believe what has transpired since last post about my Praying Hands.Tonight I come home from work, and I find out from my wife that the check that the homeowner wrote me has been stopped payment. He cancelled the check before my bank could deposit the money.I was told to not call his sorry ass anymore.
