Default my pad has spread too far

Over the years my basjoo pad has spread into areas that it doesn't belong in. Any suggestions on how to reduce the size. Digging it up is not an good option because of my age and arthritis. Hoping for (gasp) a chemical method. Thanks.

Thanks, have given away a bunch of pups over the years. I guess I just need to be careful spreading herbicides because I don't want to kill everything, just specific areas.

Hi there, try the chemical 'H2O' (while not spilling it onto yourself!)
Boil a kettle and pour HOT water on the unwanted parts.
Hope it works.

Gasp...I tend to a few plants. Me too>>>

Dig them and sell them in the forums... Spray to kill.

Place a free Ad on a local site or Craigslist, etc for FREE BASJOO!! and sit back and let others dig them for you! A local nursery may do a come dig em for free deal. Big basjoo pups sell for $50+ all over. If not a nursery maybe a landscape company. Making a few calls is way less work than spraying. You could also find 2-3 strong teenage boys and hand them shovels! $60 total and everyone’s happy!!

I know how it is when a mat gets out of control! I hit mine with roundup accidentally all the time. They will turn brown where the drops of spray hit and maybe kill a pup but survive easily. And I mix it strong. Lots of big basjoo will take a lot of roundup! If you end up killing just the growth point and not the corms, you will be worse off. You kill 1 and 4 pop up. Just look up macro-propagation. Let us know how you solve the problem! It could help many people in the future!

Good Luck!

Frequent thinning of pups and corm pruning is a good gardening practice for home-grown bananas.

I use a few drops 41% glyphosate after whacking the unwanted keiki / pup / flag / BBTV infected plant. It takes a few rounds sometimes to kill a healthy sword. And sometimes a few drops just on the leaves. I keep an eye drop tiny bottle of the stuff in my pocket when wandering the yard. In a plastic bag. Spraying (regular dilution) also. But in your case with valuable pups I think selling may be the best vision.

I’d put a listing on Facebook marketplace or swip swap or craigslist and try to get in touch with people who will dig them up for you and the reward is they get to keep the nanas they dig up.
