Cool report. It's very interesting to see a development of a plant from pup to ripen bunch.

Thanks Pancrazio!
![]() Kandrian preliminary taste report: Well,it tastes just awesome! ![]() Peel color at time of eating: Yellow-black with dry areas Flesh color: Partly orange, partly white. Pedicel end whiter, bottom end orange Texture: Soft but holding its shape and not mushy, elastic. I liked the texture very much while I hate the texture or a Cavendish with black spots. Flavor: Doesn't smell like a banana but smells intensely like another fruit I just couldn't bring myself to remember. The smell is enticing and reminds of a sweet and acidic fruit. Taste: I thought it was quite sweet with some acidity to it,a very nice combination. A winner to my eyes and taste buds but can't wait to have the rest of the bunch ripen, that single ripe finger I tried really opened my appetite for it!!! ![]()

Here are a few photos of the ripe banana I ate
![]() ![]() ![]() These are just after bringing it down,I ate it the next day. Here it is next on eating dash next to a green one I brought down to see if and when it ripens. ![]() This is what I needed and used to get them down! ![]() Here is a photo of the rest of the bunch on my Kandrian! ![]() ![]() Shall I bring them down or can they wait another month? I only get to Pyrgos every month normally and though i have a dear cousin in Pyrgos, its not necessary that she will spot them early on and let me know to get there earlier, nor that I will be able to get there earlier than a month's time. What do you think? Thank you very much in advance ![]()

They look pretty filled out to me, and the fact that one was quite ripe and tasty would cause me to harvest them if my next chance wouldn't be for a month. After another month, there's a real chance that the whole bunch would have ripened and rotted before you got back to it.

Thank you very much Mark!
A few random ones of the bunch have started yellow tipping from the sun, just like what probably caused the one I ate to get ripe. I may have an opportunity to get here again in 2 weeks this time. I am still thinking about harvesting them now though as I guess the yellow tipped ones will get ripe earlier, right? What do you think? The weather here is awesome with 24-26C during the day and 12-16C at the coldest of the night and that kind of weather is predicted to stay and is pretty much normal for here with rains in between, though not predicted for now. Thank you very much in advance! ![]()

With that weather forecast, I would expect they will all ripen within the next month, and probably sooner. In my normal cool weather, it can take over a month between the first and last fruit to ripen if I leave the bunch on the plant. But a stretch of a couple of warm days (26+ C) in a row can be enough to make the whole bunch ripen practically at once.

That's a tall plant. The "next generation" will probably be taller. I know you like the tall plants, so that's good for you.

Yeah, love its height! Adds a nice jungle feel. This variety is my biggest so far in the ground,i only regret not having more space to give it at the base as it's getting really vigorous now, sending sword pups some distance from the pseudostems! Hopefully I maybe able to expand its area in the future.
Hope the pups reach 6m pseudostems and produce even bigger bunches!!! The motherplant flowered early with only 4 good leafs,so I am very happy with what it produced for a first bunch! ![]()

The Namwah('Misi Luki') is still waiting for those planters I have been wanting to make some years now. But i won't be able to make them before June or even later unfortunately, other things have been in the way all those years and still are...Hope my 'Ice Cream'(Pisang Awak) fruits next year in Melissia though and I get to taste a Namwah type
![]() The funny thing is that I had originally asked for a 'Misi Luki' pup and the 'Kandrian' came as a bonus gift alongside it...I certainly favored the 'Kandran' for the sheer size I read it reaches and it didn't let me down! This was a gift excellently chosen, better than what I asked for! Hope the Namwah hangs on till the patios are ready and can grow huge too! Here is a photo of it taken a few days ago ![]() ![]()

Maybe congratulate it on its tenacity and give it a bigger pot!

I have never repotted it all those years, not once! I only fertilize it now and then with organic slow release fertilizer. What keeps me from repotting is that I need to move it twice a year and the fact that I keep many bananas potted for ground planting at the new planters and don't want them take up too much space till then. Plus,Pyrgos is really rainy in winter and the smaller the pot to plant ratio, the faster it can dry out out somewhat inbetween. I will consider doing it though to a slightly bigger pot come spring, will see...

Thank you Cikas!
They are partially burned now from a couple frosts but the potted ones(including 'Misi Luki' of Pisang Awak subgroup) kept growing new leafs in winter,as usual and even more during this mild winter, while my big in ground 'Kandrian' is slowly pushing new growth and should get faster again as the weather warms up more! 'Kandrian' got burnt more so than the other ground planted bananas due to being tall,in a wind exposed spot. The wind chilled its leafs, conducting the near/freezing temperatures to them fast while the bananas that didnt get as much wind, didnt damage as much and some hardly damaged thanks to their wind/frost protected spots from the wind prevailing on a few cold nights(having wind on cold nights is not very common in Pyrgos, frost yes,on 2-3 night annually).
