![]() Thank you very much Bryan!
![]() The leafs dont usually get shredded that much,if at all,and till a month ago there were very few shreds on the leafs, counted in the fingers of a single hand mostly. But then came hurricane strength winds that were strong enough to break one of the 2 major branches of my Grevillea robusta, just to the side of my ''Kandrian'', and bring it crushing down...My ''Kandrian'' was bending with the winds quite a lot but managed to withstand the winds with virtually no damage except a little more finely shredded leafs, which dont look bad at all! Its more palmy looking now ![]() To give you an idea of the winds my plants saw,a few km away,at another property of mine,a tornado formed and totally uprooted 15 olive trees from 20acres of olive trees(almost all the rest had a great deal of broken branches as well) belonging to my father and uncle, plus broke quite a few other trees like some beautiful oaks and some biggish pines near their base from the forest we have preserved within out property!

![]() Thank you very much for your replies!
Thank you very much Ante! ![]() I am very much enjoying their foliage and that extra tropical note it adds! From what i have seen in Pyrgos, bananas grown in the area(Orinoco and maybe Namwah) usually keep their leafs and hanging bunches through the winter most of the years so i hope mine will as well!!! We will see... Thanks Andreas,I hope so! ![]() Thanks Bryan! ![]()

![]() I am very happy to report that my 'Kandrian' has bloomed!!!!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It bloomed with just 4,5 leafs on it but hopefully they are enough in conjunction with the pups,to make and mature a big bunch! We shall see... ![]()

![]() Here are a few updated pictures of my flowering 'Kandrian' taken last weekend while i was down for the monthly maintenance in Pyrgos!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() About when do you think they will be ready for harvest with this growth rate? These pictures are just 1 month after the previous ones where no bananas were visible yet! Thank you very much in advance! ![]()

![]() One of the bananas of the lowermost hands has turned yellow a couple days now. Does this mean the bunch is ready and I should harvest it? I ask because the uppermost hands are supposed to be the first to turn color in most varieties, right?
The bunch has filled very well and I was just waiting for them to start turning color before harvesting for maximum flavor. What ripeness is better with Kandrian for tostones and what for eating out of hand? Thank you very much in advance! ![]()

Cut it down when the fingers have filled in. This is a 2 man job. Hang the bunch outside in the shade or in the house. Tostones - very green. Out of hand --- very yellow. |

![]() It's usually the top hands that start to turn yellow first, but not always. Also, sometimes a damaged finger (e.g., one that an animal partially consumed, or one that split) will turn yellow well before the rest of the bunch does. But so long as they are filled out, then they are ready to harvest. Post a picture of the bunch and we'll have a better sense of whether they are ready to go, but it sounds like they are.

![]() I think the normal way to harvest would be to cut the p-stem and let it bend down. No way do you get on a ladder and cut the bunch

![]() Thank you very much for the information and advise!
![]() I think this particular finger has split slightly. I will be bringing it down tomorrow to taste it! ![]() Here is a photo of the bunch from August: ![]() I will be taking and posting a current photo of it tomorrow, everything is far more filled out and the bunch seems heavier! For bringing the bananas down,I plan to suspend a cloth below and cut the bananas individually to fall on it as I don't want to cut the pseudostem nor male flowers,I want to leave them end on their own and the pseudostem disintegrate on its own. The pups seem ready for flowering next year and look like they will be getting bigger than the motherplant! ![]() Thank you very much in advance ![]()
