Ha ha Ante, I am still home and not at work yet because it's been snowing heavily since last night and not over with yet. Figures, my back was just feeling better from the last storm's work and now I can go back to shoveling, blowing and plowing in a few hours!
![]() The link from BB73 has some small ones available and I also got a PM from another member I haven't looked at yet so, hopefully I can just start with a small plant and pot it for a few years and then give it a try. ![]() |

I thought i would do an update on my Kandrian and Namwah Tall from Bob as the past Sunday,i finally got them out again!!!
![]() Here are a few pictures a little after getting them out and drenching them with water! Kandrian ![]() Kandrian in front and Namwah Tall at the back ![]() ![]() ![]() Namwah Tall ![]() As you can see,the Namwah Tall is extremely droopy from growing in my basement while Kandrian holds its leafs quite stiffly and well. 2 of Namwah Tall leafs have already bent now with just a very light breeze,no real wind...Looking forward to new, adapted to outdoor life leafs!!!!! ![]()

Thank you very much Bo for your reply! I am glad you liked them!
They are not as sturdy as they should be right now but that should fix itself in a few weeks outdoors! I read that too about Namwah and cant wait to taste its fruits!!! Do you think my Namwah Tall stands any chance to flower and ripen fruits within this year? Before getting cut for shipping,it was already almost twice as tall!

I have only had marginal luck with actually getting the fruit to ripen in my climate. I did alot of freeze prevention this past year and it looks like it will pay off this summer. I am presently waiting on my first Dwarf Namwah that is on it's way from South Florida. I think it helps to give them lots of fertilizer during the growing season to produce fruit. I use palm and tropical fertilizer and miracle grow. I would keep an eye on it, who knows maybe it will fruit this year. I have 2 Musa Basjoo that are blooming right now and most everything is still pretty brown. I have found that my Bananas like to fruit the second season. Hope this helps

Thank you very much for your reply Bo!
Its unfortunate that our zone doesn't allow fruit to wait through winter for spring ripening. I guess we only have a narrow window for flower emergence in order to get ripe bananas. Lets hope we are in it this year!!! ![]() I wish you receive your Dwarf Namwah soon!!! I dont have too high hope for my Tall Namwah flowering this year as well, given its small present size but as you said, who knows? I will try my best! I wish you get many bunches this year! ![]()

Just an update on my Namwah Tall and Kandrian,a few days after the last photos, strong winds broke all leafs on both plants. The weather has been unusually cool here all this past time along with some rains and i had lots of pseudostem rot and very few new growth. My Namwah lost 1/3 to half its pseudostem height and now has 2 rather weak leafs that are half what it had and with a smaller petiole diameter. I only hope it stops loosing pseudostem and grows some robust new leafs fast as it was set back a great deal...I think it was root or corm rot from the rains and cool weather.
My Kandrian also lost all its leafs from the strong winds and had some pseudostem rot too but at a far lesser degree and so far it seems to have not lost any pseudostem height. Its just now growing and opening its first leaf after it lost all its leaves. Seems like it also had root rot and was unstable in its pot but now its pretty firm and growing its new leaf fast! Here are some photos! Not the prettier sight yet but hopefully on a good way to become beautiful and big bananas! Namwah Tall ![]() ![]() ![]() Kandrian ![]() Kandrian in front and Namwah Tall at the back. You can see how much height the Namwah lost as they were both about the same height before... ![]() Looking forward to robust new leafs from both!!!

Just a brief update on my Kandrian as i ground planted it last Saturday in Pyrgos!
Unfortunately i dont know how permanent this position will be for it but its a good place to let it grow and fruit for the first time to get an idea what to expect in general from a banana this big(how many pups, what size area i need, etc). Once i get to know that first hand and finish planning my plantings,i will most probably move it to a more suitable spot for the long term. Here is a photo of my Kandrian ground planted! ![]() Looking forward to see it grow huge!!!!! ![]()

Just took an updated picture of my Namwah which is finally doing well again and growing at a good pace, although it's still not as robust as it were before getting it out of my basement. Anyway,at least it seems to be on it's way to becoming robust and healthy again and not dieing back!
Here is the picture! It's starting to look good already!!! ![]() ![]() I will hopefully be expanding my planting beds to the front yard in Pyrgos this summer and it will definately have a spot there! Can't wait to get them ready and ground plant it!!!

Hello!
I thought I would update on my Kandrian and Namwah Tall(well,it is a "Misi Luki" but knowing its not a Mysore subgroup variety I have been calling it Namwah Tall which may also not be the best name as it's a Pisang Awak but not necessarily "Namwah Tall". Is there any better name to call it maybe?). They have been doing very well with our summer heat and growing at a good pace! Here are a few pictures of my Kandrian taken a couple of weeks ago! ![]() ![]() ![]() Namwah Tall is still potted unfortunately but I hope to ground plant it in it's final position in my Pyrgos Garden this Fall. ![]()

Just an updated photo of my ''Kandrian'' which seems to be doing wonderfully in Pyrgos, getting bigger and thicker fast! Its not visible in the photo but the first pup just broke the surface!!!
![]() ![]() Why is it producing so big and wide leafs without gaining much height btw? Thank you very much in advance! ![]()

I thought i would update on my ''Kandrian'' as it has grown huge already and keeps growing nicely and relatively fast without caring for the cooler nights! Here are 3 photos of it i took on Saturday!
![]() ![]() 2 pups are coming up now! ![]() ![]() With the growth rate it has and height it attains with each leaf,i hope it flowers sometime next year! ![]()

Here are a few updated photos of my ''Kandrian'' from the past weekend! Growth is certainly slower now but still acceptable i would say!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And after quite a long while without any updates, here is my ''Misi Luki''(Namwah Tall/a Pisang Awak anyway),still potted but doing well! As you can see,the pot appears to be a restrictive factor for it as although it grew a good number of leafs,it didnt grow much bigger. ![]() I look forward to ground planting my Namwah Tall and see it grow big and flower! ![]()

I thought i would update on my Kandrian, last winter was bad in Pyrgos and got down to -2,5C one night, with frost, which is pretty bad for Pyrgos and we seldom see such temperatures there. The leaf blades and petioles on my Kandrian got burned but early on spring, the new leaf that was about to emerge in winter, emerged and had only about 30cm of damaged tip and the rest unfolded perfectly fine! I took a photo of my Kandrian 1 and a half weeks ago, when i was in Pyrgos last time, and it already had 4 leafs total and was significantly taller already!!! Here is the photo!
![]() The fence is about 1,20m tall so you get an idea of height! I guess it already qualifies as huge to me and i am very happy for it! ![]() Bob,you really did an excellent choice for a gift banana!!! Thanks a lot!!! ![]()
