I ordered 10 yards of mulch for the yard. It was delivered and only cost $30.00. I have been mulching for years. My soil is very happy.


While I took the mulch pictures I got carried away with photo's of my yard (sorry).

That's awesome work - just incredible. How'd you do your rock path? Just put regular cement between them?

The growth came from three years, a new irrigation system, 40+ yards of mulch (my soil was dead as the last owner did nothing for years). Most of the plants were in 1 to 5 gallon pots. I grew up in New York and love the tropical look.

Thank you. I ordered 7.4 tons of flagstone and 9 yards of sand. The stones are dry set in 3 to 5 inches of sand. I am waiting for small stone that will go in between the flagstone. I thought the use of concrete would be to harsh. I ran a gas line under the patio to the fire pit.

The AeAe came from Hawaii and southern California. They are sheltered and get filtered sun. They would do o.k. in more sun but I wanted them to be protected. They have two walls of the house to protect them. It does not freeze here. They love the mulch as well!

I worked all day in the yard and came in a little while ago to these nice replys. Thank you!

The backyard looks amazing, however I have two words regading where your varigated bananas are growing, "too close". I think you should probably dig one of those up so they don't gey over crowded. I can take it off your hands if you do not have a new home for it. (sarcasm)

Magilla, your hard work was well worth it,. I can't believe you can get the mulch so cheap! Here if you have to buy it you'd need a second mortgage. Does Santa Barbara still hold the festival and parade(for some Spanish guy I think) in August? I visited Santa Barbara for a few weeks and was there for it many years ago when in college and am told I had a good time.....Bob

Thank you. You cant beat that price for mulch. At first I was going and filling buckets in the truck. The soil that a rototilled the mulch in three years ago is black and full of worms. It also helps keep the soil warm. My wife does not like the fermenting smell. It goes away in a week. The event is called Fiesta. It is the first week in August and it is a celebration of the spanish heritage of Santa Barbara. The event travels down State Street. It is a lot of fun.

All I can say is WOW. I really love the varigated corner. I agree with Chris (Topersmith), you need to ship a few out, but remember I live closer then him so shipping would be cheaper...Just looking out for you in these tough times..LOL

Tough times? I am a financial advisor, let me tell you about tough! In my next life I want to say "would you like fries with that"? It has been brutal in the markets. The Feds need to do something soon or it will get even worse. Fear or panic selling like after September 11th could drive the markets and economy into a long recession. The last recession lasted 2 years. We are only 14 months into this. Hold on.

Were we taking bananas. I have two Siam Rubys in the variegated corner that like indirect sunlight. They both have small pups attached. Thank you for the kind words.

Still kicking myself for not asking a friend for a pup when I was there in May. She had a gorgeous full grown plant growing in Puna on the Big Island of all places. They really are incredible.
