My Ice Creams--awesome

As you may know, these were planted in March of 2007 and flowered in May of 2008. I've posted some images in my photo gallery.

Last week, I cut 4 green bananas off the right tree (the one laying down) and put them into a bag with an apple. I tried them this weekend, and they were great!! I had tried one earlier, but it had not sufficiently ripened, the ones I tried this morning were perfect.

I chopped off the bananas from the main stem on the right one, and I'm in the process of hanging it up so they can continue to ripen.

With any luck, I'll have eaten most of the bananas from one plant before the other plant's bananas are ready.

Banana Gallery - Ice Creams as of 092008

I posted photos in my photo gallery.

I'm eating the hell out of these wonderful naners!

I've given some to neighbors and officemates, and everyone agrees these are the best tasting bananas they've had.

I'm almost done with the first tree's fruit. I hope to cut the other tree's fruit down early next week.

Congrats! I hope mine fruits next year. It made it through the hurricane really well. Just a few tattered leaves.

Good job, are these your first home grown bananas?

Re: My Ice Creams--awesome

Yes, these two Ice Cream plants are my first efforts at growing bananas. I ordered them online, and they've done well. Both produced bananas.

I ended up with about 80 bananas on the first one ("Harvest Time" photo), and the other one--which was still standing after Hurricane Ike--has about the same number. Two people at my office who don't even really like bananas were amazed at how great these babies tasted.

Sadly, Ike destroyed one plant that I figured was going to send out a flag leaf any month now, so it looks like my other 3 living ones won't be giving me any fruit for another year or so.

I'm hooked.

Hello TTp, Fred.

Good job you have done! Could you tell us about your overwintering methods,
as I am very much interested in the way how you have done in the past winter
in your zone 9, same as mine 9b?

My overwintering procedure consisted entirely of crossing my fingers.

Luckily, we didn't get a hard enough freeze to do any damage.
