![]() Benny do you think mine could be larger because of our zone difference. The C,G, and some of my other bananas still grew thru winter. And this is a first generation plant with eleven pups

![]() Sweet, Taylor. Do you grab them out for winter or keep in the soil?
Would you say they are better growers in your zone than any other banana, or rather average?

![]() Tony: I'd give my right arm to live in San Diego. Yes, now I understand why your CG bananas can grow that high. San Diego is ideal to grow tropical plants including papayas, mangoes, guavas, etc....and of course bananas. I lived in San Diego for 12 years a long long time ago. Here in my place I have to struggle with the cold and luckily CG is hardier than most bananas I have. So only part of the year I get growth.
Taylor, your bananas are amazingly healthy and beautiful. Bo and Patty: thanks for the compliment. Patty: Yes I did a lot of work in my backyard. I'll post those pics later including moving my pergola plat and moving my bananas and citrus.

![]() Harvey:
When I transferred my bananas that were growing under my pergola plat most of them I thought would not make it but when the weather changed to higher temperature, they all seem to come alive. So here I am again. But also I have many priorities before and I just got so busy. I am just now winding down and have a little time to post. You ought to see my backyard now Harvey. Most of it are now designed concrete and pavers and bricks. You wont recognized it since you last came over. Thanks everybody for your concern. I am also concern why Joe stopped posting. Perhaps he is so busy demonstrating (with) his AZ41 product . So I am not too concern. I hope he makes lots of money.

![]() Jack, I left it in the ground. I would say it is better than any other banana (that I have tried), especially edible types. If I could get a good vigorous Basjoo or likewise in the ground, that could change as far as "Overall best".

![]() I wonder, whether California Gold will be able to survive our zone 7b winters (although most of them are zone 8 winters). I have serious doubts, but it's worth a try. Next year I might get to some plants, 2 years from then they will have observable mats and then I can judge. ![]()

![]() Brent:
Thanks a lot. Jack: I think CG is small enough to grow in a large pot so you can take it inside your house during the winter. With plenty of glass of course for sunshine. The average height is around 5 feet and the leaves might reach to 4 feet in height or less. But your problem might be space. As for me I am thinking to cut all the leaves and wrap them with something like cloth or styro foam and leave them on the ground next winter . Not with my CG and dwarf Brazilian but with my other bananas.

![]() The only problem here might be humidity and precipitaiton. I haven't seen a banana, that would be able to resist rain, frost, snow, meltdown, frost, meltdown, rain... and that's what our winters look like.

![]() Jack:
Oh, Wow!! I've never seen such a weather except on TV and I thought those were just inside the Hollywood studio (lol). Just kidding. Benny I know how you feel Jack. When we were living in the desert my kids were jumping up and down inside the car when we pass the ocean on the highway and shouting "water! water!). Now that we live close by they don't care. Brent: Yes, I don't know what happenned to the Flying Dutchman. I have email friends too that don't post anymore. And I just wonder......... From some of them I bought banana pups. I guess the newbees can call us "The Old Timers" Eh?

![]() Hey, Benny, just a note about Joe: He's okay, just busy. I telephoned him last week to chat for a few minutes. Joe did post in some CRFG forums last week about him and his friend winning many medals at the California State Fair for their various fruit wines. They must have had 20-30 different ones with medals, very impressive.

![]() Harvey:
I knew that. He and his friends submitted 32 different wine entries and 30 earned medals for the best tasting homemade wines. And the calamondin wine took double medals and first places. It's too bad I consumed most of the wines he gave me. I should have kept it as a souvenir. He gave me lots to taste. Benny

![]() I moved my pergola in this location and built concrete floors and walkways. In the background I enclosed my open patio with lots of glass around it so I can put my bananas during the winter. Also the slotted redwood floor on the background I got it for free a long time ago at my work.

![]() On the background top left, I built a glass roof made out of recycled bathroom sliding glass doors for my bananas protection. I got the sliding glass doors very cheap $4 to $5 each. You also noticed the transplanted bananas in the background- all of which came from the pergola plat I moved.
