Default My big Ae Ae is growing all green

Newest 4 leaves and the cigar are 99% green. Smaller pups have normal coloration. All the naners are growing big fast with the return of daily high 80s, low 90s.

Wow that's quite the curve on the new leaf, is that just from wind?

Nope. The mama is just reminding me about my plan to relocate the mat further left toward the street. This area runs a bit more wet and the Sweet Tart will take the spot. Along with the Eureka lemon nearby.

A bucket of miracle grow will brig the colors back to the leaves, cut down the compost and nitrogen for now.

You might have that theory backwards, or maybe it doesn't have any effect.

I only use compost with much more nitrogen then needed and mine have too much color.

Any tips on how to reduce the color, maybe 3 buckets of miracle grow will do it?

I fert my naners with 6-3-16 + minors monthly. They don't see any more N other than a good dose of chicken litter rated 3-2-3.

I had to straighten out and unravel that bent cigar leaf today as most of the leaf had emerged. Things look good as each new leaf grows bigger and wider. More pics later.

Smile Re: My big Ae Ae is growing all green

I used Espoma Hollytone to change the colors on this plant.
Bottom leaves are from the original owner ....newer growth is with Espoma.
I stopped the feeding(Espoma) for the winter and newer winter growth reverted back to the original leaf color.

Winter leaves..... these have a lot of grey/green color compared to the previous photos.

This one grows in 100% coarse sand & biochar
No Fertilizer

This one grows in 20% coarse sand, 80% compost, & biochar
No Fertilizer

What really brings out the colors is music, you can clearly see by the color patterns
which one prefers "Mr. Crowley" and which one goes for "No More Mr. Nice Guy".

I do not know where you are or what your soil is like but there are 2 bananas that have a preference for acidic soil. The musa uranoscopus (coccinea) and the AeAe. As a matter of fact the first will just deteriate if not in acid soil . The Ae Ae's on the other hand sometimes are known to revert to green in a hard alkaline soil. Once they turn green it is all but hopeless for them to put on variegation again. I live in Daytona Beach Florida and have a very alkaline soils so to protect this problem from ever happening to me I make sure that I on a regular basis apply aluminum sulphate to keep my soil on the acid side. I hope that you can get your tree to start to color back up before it is too late.

The other 3 pstems growing on the mat from the same mama corm are all normally variegated. Probably a good idea to include some cottonseed meal in the next fert appl. The pH should drop. Got to find the pH meter and poke it in. And all my new stuff is planted with biochar these days. Charged first.
