Unhappy My banana plant wont grow!

It looks really healthy and it started making a new leaf 2 weeks ago and it wont finish making the leaf. I put it in the window so theres tons of light and i gave it plant food and its not too wet but it wont grow. Why did it stop growing?

It wont be wet Kevin,

I am new two weeks ago to an Ensete and its my understanding with Bananas etc they need copius amounts of water, and are greedy feeders.

Mine is a seedling yet, I have it in my hall, if the weather is ok (no wind) it goes out for some sunshine.

Maybe a housefly got it, or something flew in. Something could be in the roots.

How much water do you give it?
What kind of food do you give it?

I give mine till it starts to grow a product called Miraclegrow slow release. The slow release means its fed for a few months in the Initial stage (seedling) takes up what it needs.

Is it very sunny in the window, try a nice area thats neither shade or sun, bit of both in the room.

I am sure the more experience will see this and help you.

Thanks for helping! =)
Ive been keeping it really dry cuz someone said if its too wet it can rot. I will give it a lot more water and see it that helps. Ive been feeding it Expert all purpose plant food but maybe i will buy that Miraclegrow plant food and use that. We dont have any flies or bugs in the house so i dont think it could be that but mom has a big tree plant in that window so it may not be getting enough light. I could grow it on a table on the deck cuz it would get more light there.

You grew a banana plant from a seed? wow! =D How big does a Ensete banana plant get? btw, welcome to the banana forum! Is it warm where you are or still cold?
Heres what my banana plant looks like. I took this picture last week.

Ah!,

When they are planted they need the water. I am not planting mine ever lol

No, reason is I am waiting for another home so all my plants are potted up ready.

But thanks about the watering Sunfish!!

At the end of the season what will you do with yours to lose the water if plants out all summer, and where will you keep it?

A friend at another site said he used all purpose plant food and his banana plant grew 6 feet in only one summer. If it cant grow any more in the pot then i decided i will plant it in the garden. he said it should be in the shade first for 2 weeks but its not that big so i can make a garden cloth tent so it wont get too much light until then.

Thanks for the information about water! =)

I don't fertilize or add extra water until it gets hot. If the plants are not already growing rapidly in high heat then not only can the water cause rot but the fertilizer can cause nutrient lock-up and stunt or even kill the plant. Yes, I learned all this the hard way. Unfortunately sometimes when the banana won't grow it is tempting to add even more water and even more fertilizer which only makes it worse. Wait until the summer heat hits and then put the banana outside (start in shade and ease into full sun in a few days) and then follow the usual advice of lots of water and fertilizer.

K then and im glad i didnt do anything yet. I will just leave it alone till it gets hot outside then plant it in the garden. it looks so good that i dont want anything to go wrong. Thanks for the advice. =)

I get that means it just doesnt want to grow cuz its too cold.

Your plants look really good and i do not see any reasons why it would not grow. One thing here i would like to mention that the banana take lots of water and this is the only factor which might be going wrong there.
