Musa "Vino Tinto"
 

I am hearing about a new Musa called "Vino Tinto".
Does anyone have any info on it please?
Various wesites state that it is for release in 2006.
It is said to be all things to all men !!! Frost hardy , wine stained leaves, dwarf growing etc etc.
Does anyone have it?
Where is it obtainable from.
Gabe out there seems to be the "Main man"!! Any news please.

This is really a Musa rubinea x Musa yunnanensis, which is a great combo. It will be registered under Nature Products so they will be the only ones able to sell it (www.natureprodcuts.net). Here are s ome pics of the parent plants in my collection, you can see where the different traits come from.

The leaves look almost like they're embossed, somewhat ruffled more than normal.

They also have a very interesting mini-musella dwarf lotus.

Uhm, Gabe, isn't that Musa yunnanensis you're showing here actualy a Musa itinerans 'Indian Form'?
I actually bought this species as yunnanensis as well, and it forms really long rhizomes so I'm guessing 'Indian Form',....right?

That M. yunnanensis I had was imported from Nature Products as a corm and verified to be M. yunnanensis.

Hmm,...and do you know if it has suckers close to the motherplant already Gabe? Or also lon rhizomes?

When it produced suckers they were not on long rhizomes, they were right next the mother plant.

Ok, thanks for the answer Gabe! This probably means one of my Musa's I thought to be Musa yunnanensis is probably something else still,...
It did not have that distinctive red midrib shown there!

I do also have 'Indian form', complete with red midrib in young stage, but this one does indeed produce very large rhizomes.

You still could have M. yunnanensis, coloration on the plants can change dramatically with conditions, and also there are different forms of M. yunnanensis.

I'll see if I can find that atricle of Hakkinen then describing the subspecies/forms. I guess I'll still have to wait for a flower though.
