Musa Variegated Florida and Ae Ae

I keep on thinking about the mysterious "Florida variegata" or just "Variegated Florida". It looks exactly like Musa Ae Ae, but there ist one thing that make me think of another sp.

The fruits. I'm growing only a "Flordia var.", and the fruits are not like the very cool Ae Ae fruits, they look like cavendish bananas.

They question is: Ae Ae = Florida var? or not?

I would like to have an Ae Ae, so I would prefer the answer yes :birthdaynana:

Couldn't say for certain, so I got both. That way I don't have to figure it out. I'm not addicted, I could quit anytime, but I don't want to just yet.

Scot some of us know how meany Bananas you have!!!! :woohoonaner:
i think its a scam theres no difrince look all new Bananas are high priced then after ever one that wants one gets it the demand starts to fall IE saply and demand so the price starts to fall but if you have a big stock and get cot with them when the price falls then you have to get creativ to sele them or you would lose mony what beter way to do that then to say "well my Varagated Banana is a new sport and its not like your Varageted Banana so the price has to be higher its rarere and no one has it"
Bull and i dont want to upset any one but this is all so remanisent of the Californa Gold thing which i dont beleav and never will that its a new Banana looks just like the old one for the record Pepol its just a Plant and a realy commin one at that don't get scamed just grow them for the fun of it you dont have to have the reares plant to be the big kid on the block

I don't think they are. The fruits of the Ae'-Ae have rounded tips, while the fruits of the Florida Variegated has bottle-necked tips. Florida may be a variegated form of Balbisiana. I, too, have both. Though, I've only had my V. Florida for only 10 days and it's still in a pot of coconut coir.

I contacted my seller in Thailand. He says that the fruits are eatable, but the have seeds. Ae Ae have no seeds, or I'm wrong?

Re: Musa Variegated Florida and Ae Ae

I just bought on of these Florida varieties and in finding info a few people pointed out a few differences, one being that the banana fruit contain seeds on the florida variety and also the varigation tends to fade as the plant gets older, not in all cases but is more common than the AeAe losing its variagtion. I have had it from a few sources about it losing its varigation as some may just be less cared for, but the seeds are the main difference. I treat mine as if it was an AeAe and looks ways they are very similar. Hope helped a bit Mark
