Musa Truly Tiny - Does it fruit?
 

Hi Friends, I just now purchased two plants billed as “Musa Truly Tiny” banana plants. They should arrive in a few days. I had done some prior research and found many descriptions stating that the plant produces edible fruit. However, I thought it strange that I could find no pictures of the plant actually bearing fruit, something I assume a seller would love to display in order to gain sales. Some descriptions state that it is a super dwarf variety of Cavendish banana producing plant. The website that I purchased from describes the fruit as “great tasting.” Gardening Guides - Truly Tiny Banana Plant

I did find other sites which indicate that Musa Truly Tiny is specifically grown for its “ornamental value” or aesthetic beauty only. Even these sites are inconsistent, reporting everything from “inedible-fruit” to “non-fruiting-plant.”

Regardless, fruit or not, it looks like a cool plant that I will enjoy growing. I like the idea of having the tropical banana plant in the form of a small houseplant/patio-plant. I have a great south-facing window, where I plan to build a stand over my swamp-cooler. It also seems like a very cool novelty plant to propagate and give to friends. I will post the arrival of these two plants, as well as, growth-updates on this thread.

I would like to know if anyone has knowledge of this plant actually producing fruit. If so was the fruit edible?

I have a truly tiny for a year now.
It has stayed tiny, that's for sure. No Tiny fruit either.
It seems to do better in subdued light.

Well my Truly Tiny banana plants finally arrived today (08-20-2009). These came already planted rather than bare-root rhizomes. I was surprised at the size of the plants. I expected them to come much smaller. These tropical plants seem to have had no problem surviving the shipping process involved with regular mail delivery. These plants do seem root-bound and in need of re potting soon. I am very pleased with the overall healthy appearance of these banana plants.

This is the 4th summer for my TT. Just this year, it grew twice as big as it was last fall.
If those are 4 inch pots you have, that's about how big mine were 1 1/2 yrs ago - so they look big for baby TT's. I heard they will flower & fruit but don't know if they're good.
