Musa 'Royal Purple' is flowering
I got this as a pup from a friend at a Southeast Palm Society meeting this Spring. It is supposedly a very hardy banana also, returning before musa basjoo in zone 8b/9a, and also in zone 8a. It came back strong after a 9F low in New Bern, N.C. a couple of winters ago. Hopefully it will turn out to be another zone 7 hardy banana.
![]() The bloom is a little more on the pinkish side than what I would call royal purple, but still very nice nonetheless! And a shot of the whole plant. |

![]() Nice pic. I'm glad to hear it survived 9 degrees and returned. I'll be interested to hear how it does for you in TN. Keep us posted.
