Musa Rose
How would this do in zone 10a Southern California? Would I have problems with the Santa Ana winds and winter cold?

Rose is probably not the best choice for you. It is fairly cold-sensitive. That said, aside from looking a bit sad, it does fine at Pitangadiego's place in San Diego, and the ones I got from him are doing fine here in Ventura.

I'm just looking for a good variety, because I still might have a little bit of usable space in my yard after I get everything planted. Also just out of curiosity.

If you want something that'll taste different than what you already have, you should consider Dwarf Brazilian. It does great in Ventura, it's as cold hardy as any of the fruiting varieties (here at least), takes the wind better than most, and make delicious fruit. All things considered, it is probably my toughest plant. It's only drawback is that it is a fairly slow grower for me, though that might have to do with where I have mine planted.

I am barely zone 9 (mostly zone 8b LOL) and my Musa Rose did great over the winter. We had I believe 4 freezes and got down to 18-20 2 nights in a row. They are one of two that I lost my pseudostem, however both areas on the north and south side of the house have 2 pups coming up the one on the north side actually are already up to about 4-5 feet at this time. These guys don't get much wind, so I can't attest to that, but as far as cold hardiness from what we saw this winter (this was the first year we had them) they did great. Hope this helps.
