Musa Patupi (zone 6)

Hi Everyone,

Here is a picture of my patupi plant at the end of our summer season in PA. The P-stem is about 65" tall and has produced several hefty pups this summer. This plant does well in a container (per cincinana's suggestion). I can control the watering since patupi really likes being dry when not growing fast. The growing seasons seems to be just 2.5 to 3 months long which is much shorter than all of my other plants including Veinte Cohol.

If I can keep this one alive till spring, perhaps it will flower next year. The plant is 2.5 years old already.

Have a good weekend!

Getting very close to a flower! BananaT says his Patupi fruit between 5’ and 9’ so you got to the “flower zone” this year. Two more months and you would probably get a flower.

Do you have a pic at the beginning of the season of your big Patupi? Did he emerge after the winter or was he a carryover from last season?

Thanks for the info!

My big one was already at 45" pstem in spring when it had just a few fragile indoor leaves. The shock of being moved outdoors into the sun and also the high winds of spring certainly set this plant back. Then it finally took off in July / August with far more growth than any other banana variety I have.

Hopefully it lives till next year and we can see if it flowers!

That's amazing you got your Patupi through your winter months inside. These plants seem to be very finicky about temperature, drafts, a/c, etc. If he makes it through this year you will get a flower. Good luck!!
